So they don't have the same effect on you or on anyone else.

See, TFA says kids pick up naught words based on how they are used by adults. Let's take the example of a child watching you building a house with a hammer and nails-angry curse words are usually the first thing that come to mind when you hit your thumb with a hammer.

But, if you say something like "dag nabbit", your brain has clearly had time to consider saying "fuck" and discarded it as vulgar. Hence, you've taken time to think about what you're saying, and your comment gets stored in a different location of the listening child's brain (and they go to a different place in the listening adult's brain).

So, relax, you can say all those words all you want.

  2. How S3 makes money... on S3 Graphics Comes out of Hiding with Chrome20 · · Score: 1
Yes, we all know that S3 cards could use a bit of work (before you mod me troll, just check out the linux drivers available).

    S3 works by a two-part stratgy:

    1) They pay their programers and assembly-line workers as little as possible

    2) They don't have that many workers

Combine these two facts with the deals they signed with Toshiba in the late 90's and early 00's, and you'll have gotten enough money to keep a small company going for a few more years.

I think S3 makes lousy cards (I had all hell getting any 3d games to run on it; mine(S3 Supersavage 16mb card) won't work at all on windows 2000, and there's no support for their cards on linux (offical or Xfree). BUT, the problem is that ATI and Nvidia have pretty much locked in the video card market. We need alternatvies to these companies, so that if one sues the other to death, we won't have a Microsoft situation on our hands.

got a little off topic there, but the bottom line is that S3 keeps their profit margins high by having a small company which relies on their pact with Toshiba (one of the largest laptop makers) to get money. They'll be gone in a few years, I bet.

Interesting is that no real specs are mentioned (in the one article I could get to). I suspect the processor must work pretty slowly.

But still, that's a heck of a deal for a computer. I'd say this is a good step forward. Even a good many american college students short on cash might jump at the oppertunity to buy a cheap and working computer like one of these.

  4. Firefly on Serenity Comic Book Series · · Score: 2, Informative
Firefly is a series created by Joss Whedon in 2002. It was aired on Fox, and canceled after just half a season (perhaps due to it's anti-authoritarian nature).

Serenity is the movie sequel, scheduled to come out this fall.

The entire series is centered around an interesting crew of renegade smugglers in the distant future. There are strong elements of the Wild West. It's basicly a space opera, like star wars, but without all the lame acting.

the DVD is well worth the purchase price. If you don't believe me, grab a torrent of the first episode off http://www.isohunt.com/ and check it out.

I hate MS just as much as the next guy, but, honestly, they will win eventually. Google is great, but Microsoft makes so many products (OS, Word, search, email) and has so much more money, that it will eventually win.

Now, it's possible that google could pull things around, but in order to beat MS, it would have to become more diverse than it currently is (I mean, google would have to make and market an equivalent to Windows and every other MS product).

See, the way things are right now, all MS has to do is block attempts to reach *.google.com in Longhorn, and google will have been nothing but a fad (this won't happen, but something similar might).

Well, yes, I kind of did.

So far, I'm not impressed, (the GUI looks like a complete rip off of GNOME) but what really counts is the internal workings. Like, having less bloat, fewer security holes.

I'll wait and try beta 1 for myself before making any judgements about spyware and vunerabilities.

There's limited compatabilty, yes. But, yahoo isn't quite "embracing" firefox yet. All it's doing is conforming to the standards. Embracing would be having a link to getfirefox.com on the main page (like instead of those "You could win a FREE iPod" ads, just have a firefox banner). Yahoo being the #1 site on the net last time I checked, having a direct link to ff would kill IE off more quickly than all the ranting us fanboys do here in a lifetime.
