there are a bunch of exceptions to that, too. Try Dr. Hawlkins from MDK2, or Jim Raynor (SC), or Yuri (RA2). Hell, the necro/druid/paladin from D2 arn't terribly action hero types. All in all, there are a lot more action heroes than geeks, however.
On the flip side, there are a few women that are really tough femenist types. What about Kerrigan (SC), Samus Aran (metroid), or Laura Croft (TR). Sure LC has impressive DD's but it's not as if she's helpless.
You are missing a critical detail.
That is, how far does your Cockatoo migrate?
The albatross, while it does travel, doesn't use the north pole to navigate (at least it probably doesn't; we don't know jack about most off shore birds).
For the most part, parrots (and allies) and wandering birds (petrols, shearwaters, etc) don't migrate. They have defined terrorties (yes even albatrosses have staked out hunting areas, though these are huge).
Thus, we can conclude that song birds could live a lot longer, but those that migrate don't live as long, simply because of the movement of the north pole.
You do know that SciFi did that with Battlestar Galactica, right?
They released the first episode of the first season and the last episode of the first season completely uncut and ad free for webstreaming.
And BSG did really well. Whether this was because of the promotional, or because the show was genuinely good, I don't know (but I do have a good idea).
Also, as above mentioned, if you want free episodes, there's bittorrent. No, it ain't legal, but when the alternative is a low-res ep on your ipod or a DVD comming out 2 years later, I shall keep on breaking the law.
If you read the article more closely, you'd see that it talks about ways in which you can raise stock price without throwing chairs, sueing the competition out of existance or installing rootkits.
It talks about testing gmail inside google for a few months inside the company, to get it "tuned to satisfy the needs of some of our most demanding customers--our knowledge workers."
Google may have to be considering it's shareholders, but it's doing this in a way which is beneficial to all.
Right now, Sun has control of internet apps/coding. ActiveX/Visual Basic can't really compete.
If Sun were to GPL Java, they've have every Tom, Dick and Harry making an "improved platform independant language." They lose the marketshare, and browsers/websites have to start supporting a million little random Java-like applets.
No, thank you. I want some software (security stuff) to stay closed-source forever. I would start to seriously dout the security of Java (right now I have complete faith in it's being 100% vulnerability free) if hackers were allowed to see everything about how it works.
Maybe Microsoft won't drop prices, but you can bet that with backwards compatability and all, you'll be able to pick up original xboxs out of the gutter.
I predict they'll go for about $25 a piece, maybe less (not a bad deal, considering they can run linux). I'll be the first one begging my friends to give me their old systems, and if that fails, ebay should do the trick.
Oh, yeah. BTW, don't go out and buy an old xbox right away. wait till about a month after christmas, when everyone and their grandmother will have the 360. Then you'll start seeing the price really come down.
Microsoft is getting really desperate. They are downright paranoid about us slashdotters, as well they should be. Firefox support (I hope soon) probably means Linux support (interesting... an alternative to WINE, or just useless?) means that they are really panicy about the google situation.
Also, is it just me, or does firefox do the same thing IE does there? Tried both, and it looks the same, with just the little Firefox users... banner at the top.
Thought so, thanks to their recent bout of slashvertising.
Joss (IIRC, maybe it was Tim) said that one of the main reasons that Fox axed Firefly was that (and I paraphrase here) the women were "too strong" and the men were "too weak".
Just a cool little factoid for y'all. I'd bet that Firefly did at at least a little bit to help bring in female viewers (the women I've showed it to think that most of the men are pretty good looking). Haven't watched much Sci-fi apart from that and BSG, but I can safely say that my sister watches BSG solely because she likes Lee Adama.
Most people I know (and those on the gtaforums.com site) aggree with me that, while Fido was good, he was one of the aspects of gta3 that could have been improved on. The gameplay and exploring the city, not the story or suspension of disbelief, is was keeps most of us replaying the game years after its release.
I actually enjoyed Tommy Vercetti the most of the GTA protagonists, simply because he had an aditude. Fido's inability to speak kind of hurt the storyline and suspension of disbelief, if you ask me. But I don't really care.
CJ is probably my least favorite protagonist; he's just too naieve. It's as if rockstar is trying to dumb the game down so that people understand the storyline on the first play through. Oh, well.
I am the opposite - meh SAT scores, a few bad grades, hell, I'm not even a computer science major (bioscience) and I have had an easy time installing and running suse. I tried mandrake and abandoned it (have they never heard of a library or dependancy?) I also tried debian, knoppix, ubuntu, and redhat before finding suse. If you haven't found a distro that's easy to use, KEEP LOOKING! I'm running suse 9.3 on a mid-top line computer (2.93ghz, 1gig RAM, 256 video), and my only complaint is that I can't run all the games I want to.
Seriously, I've had no problems.
Way I got it to work was install EVERY DAMN package on a 10gig partition, and nuke the ones I wasn't using. Worked great, unlike windows, where you can't kill have the bloat it comes with.
Video card (ATI raedon something) was a snap, and the two times I've used a command line (a couple of winrar files and quake 4 installation), I found it quite easy. But then, I run an old computer on DOS just so I can play all those awesome ancient games (and yes, I have heard of dosbox).
Bottom line: linux is easy, as long as you use common sense and google for every problem you come across.
Linux will never get a dominant market share until something more than word of mouth comes along. We need TV, radio and newspaper adds spammed constantly, free support survices, government grants for development. Viral marketing doesn't work. Look at firefox (awesome browser, marketshare like crap because of no mainstream marketing campaign) or Serenity (awesome movie, too small a marketing campaign).
Demo in a good long while
on
Quake 4 Linux
·
· Score: 1
Remember how long it took the Doom 3 demo to come out?
It was about 2-3 months. Expect the same release time, with no demo, ever, for linux.
I've been playing this game for about 4 hours now, the single player fully justifies the purcase price (it's some of the best gameplay ever, IMHO, and the graphics are amazing).
If I were unsure about whether or not I could run the game, I'd (1) read the requirments (2.0ghz, 512ram, 64video IIRC), (2) if still unsure, wait or torrent it. Games come down in price, as do upgrades. Torrent can be used to see if a game runs, but BUY THE FUCKING GAME so id will continue to make games for linux.
Not BS. I hit the button, 2 secs of bios, 1.5-2 of Windows XP professional, and 3 of loading.
Sometime, try a plain install of Windows, no SP2, no patches, not word, quicklaunchers, toolbars, etc. I said it was a games machine, and I meant it. I wouldn't take it online due to no anti-virus/firewall, but it works great for LAN games.
Seriously. My 1ghz, 256mb RAM laptop can turn off, "caching" the data in about 4 seconds, and start up in about 8.
If that's not good enough, try my 2.93ghz/1g RAM gaming desktop - 7 seconds for a clean start up (no hibernate).
Besides, who actually shuts down their computers any more? I mean, with more people using bittorrent at night, or just turning off monitors, I don't really worry about start up times. Do you?
Not that anyone else will really care, but what is up with it showing virtualy every major town/city in Vermont except the capital, Montpelier?! (yes it shows it when you zoom in all the way, but seems like it should show the capital when you're zoomed in to the point of seeing everything else.
I mean, for crying out loud, it has little towns on there that have less than a hundred people on them!
Is it some kind of feature that I don't know about, or what?
Worth noting is that I haven't really used google maps ever before (not having traveled in the last few years).
OTOH, though, I would say that google maps stand up pretty well. Either that or no one uses them: I work at a gas staion part time (when I'm not in school), and people using yahoo/mapquest come in all the time asking for clarification. I've only seen one or two google map people come in and ask for help.
IMHO, it's about 300m more than episode III deserved. If Serenity does half as well, we'll be vitually guarenteed of the two sequel movies being made, and of the show comming back.
BUT, just to play devil advocate...
So I was going to go see SW3 and shell out my hard earned cash to Lucas like everone else. But, I stumbled on a fast FTP with a high quality screener to downloaded. As a result, Lucas lost a couple bucks.
Just goes to show, hollywood may have a point despite what us/.ers say.
Yes, they are. I suspect that in their case, the effect of the word has worn off on them, and the word "fuck" is no longer stored in the area of the brain wherein the other curse words are stored. Instead, it is stored along side of "like" and "lol" and the other overused (and therefore worthless) words.
On the flip side, there are a few women that are really tough femenist types. What about Kerrigan (SC), Samus Aran (metroid), or Laura Croft (TR). Sure LC has impressive DD's but it's not as if she's helpless.

That's english, windows, RC3 (this version, 1.5 final?).
...working out at the gym?

Guess who wins every time?
Not to mention that if warez/pirated music, etc were found on your computer by the law enforcement you called in, you'd be in deep shit.
Christ, anyone got a link/full text?

Great series, regardless.
It is the parent's responsability to control and limit their kid's gaming choices, not the government's. I really hope that this doesn't get passed.
I swear, if parents spent as much time with their kids as they did talking on their cell phones, America wouldn't be as fucked up as it is today.
If you live in florida, for god's sake, write to the lawmakers and tell them not to do this!
