Many scientists no longer give the results of their research to the public even though much of the funding for the research comes in the form of a direct grant (many of which come from tax payers) and/or state/federal funding of the institution for which they work. Instead they quickly submit patents for the work allowing them to reap greater benefits for themselves, at the expense of those persons who initially funded their work (the taxpayer). Do you see this as a problem? If so, what will/can you do about it?
as far as I have read on kernel threads (http://kt.linuxcare.com) there will be no journalling systems in 2.4, initially at least.
This is kind of an odd announcement especially with the kernel in its current 'slushy' state.. I am guessing that 2.4.X with X>5 before the first journalling systems begin to appear.
Thanks for stating the facts.. Seems more people should read the kernel development list before starting to spout off... Of course, its much easier to stay stupid and mouth off than to get smart and argue real issues...
It also sounds like this code might be a much better variety of what was originally proposed for 2.4.
*Free roaming charges not available in areas of black holes, gaseous anonalies, or Klingon Empire. Roaming calls may not be placed in or around (within 5 parsecs ) or Worm Holes. All calls are subject to galaxy/system taxes. The Ferengi Empire reserves the right to cancel this promotion at any time.
Geez, it seems os many people are missing the point.
The idea does not working from temperature difference, rather pressure difference. The "Heat Exchanger" allows the liquid nitrogen to turn back to pressurized gas.. The pressure from the gas goes through a turbine or piston that in turn pushes the engine.
It seems like a pretty simple idea. Free air conditioning, now you just have to heat the car. And I bet heating a car is a lot simpler than cooling a car...
As a person in the industry I find this a little far fetched.
Generation is being built at crazy rates right now, much of it expected to be online next summer.
Now I would agree with the transmission problem, currently do to regulation there is no money in transmission lines. An entity must charge its cost for the usage of its transmission lines, so their is no real incentive to build transmission lines. Especially when putting a 385 thousand volt line through the back of someones yard tends to upset them. And then there is the time and money involved in the simulations, studies, etc of the effect of the line on flows around the grid.
The answer? Perhaps deregulate transmission? Of course when you do, and until enough is built, there would probably be more unreliability in the grid. Nearly every day since the beginning of the summer season we see TLRs (Transmission Line Relief) for our purchases/sales of power on the grid.
Maybe the government needs to build transmission to help ensure reliability, leaving marketing of power to the private sector.
Of course, all this deregulation that is occurring within the industry isn't helping things. Senators/Representatives are creating laws for issues which they have no real understanding.
I don't know, but I bet this gets fixed before complete deregulation throughout the US occurs simply because leaving a customer in the dark means losing a customer to someone else.
But hey.. deregulation means cheaper power! Yeah right.. I have my job because of deregulation, and more jobs are being created because of it, which means more overhead. And the accounting process is going to get much more complex. Just imagine.. You used to buy power from Company A, but company B gave you a cheaper rate. So company b builds a line to your house to give you their power right? Nope, they just send the power through company A to get to you. So, now company A charges company B some $$$ value for the use of their line. Now somebody has to account for all that mess.
And what about the meter reading? Does company A read the meter, or does company B have its own meter readers?
I think the result will be much like the telephone industry. Prices haven't gone down (at least, my phone bill hasn't) but services have certainly shot up.
You could include all of your menus/etc in include directives.. tables for shading.. hell, including the menus with include directives would allow quite a savings across a lot...with only 5k should be able to do quite a bit...
While I don't know that every point was accurate I do believe this to be a fundamental problem with unix in general.
Every command, program, etc seems to have a different interface. And this is a huge problem for the newbie, hence so many of the new distro's/etc are using KDE as the interface. Its not perfect, but way ahead of anything else in the field. (I am not advocating for/against kde, just the idea).
I respect that every program has its own unique needs, but every program also has its similarities with others. Everyone needs to close the dang thing, usually open/close files, and a convenient way to get help is nice, not to mention a place to set options for the software.
Perhaps a common help command (which seems to be starting...) for command line programs (ie --help or -h or something) and a help selection that is built into the window manager that sends a SIGHELP (concept, not suggesting this) to GUI programs to activate the help. I think this would great help the state of Unix in the marketplace.
It would then be up to the person developing the software to add the functionality. I know we don't want to force conformity, but a project that would define certain similar details would help linux on its entry onto the desktop.
Just a thought... I use it, I like it... but there's always room for more, better, faster....
If NASA fails hear, I think its time for the to go. Their history of failure in recent years just seems to be rising steadily.
What happened to the days when NASA took us to the moon. Nothing as great has happened in my life time as a result of NASA.
Perhaps the bureacracy (sp?) that is NASA has grown to impede its own growth. In its younger years it seems to have accomplished tasks well beyond that which it is capable of today.
So my question is, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
America seems motivated, and wanting to go forward. But NASA seems to want to give us a lack luster performance.
Something needs to be done... Perhaps a NASA2 to inspire competition between the two, with congress appropriately funding the one making the most progress.
I'm tired of waiting... Space should be a now thing... and was promised to us when we were kids... the now shouldn't be tomorrow...
Is there any tech market that microsoft does not somehow influence directly anymore? Geeeezzz..
If linux gets much bigger, expect office, ie6, etc on it, of course, limited functionality as compared to the system running on Windows, but another area for microsoft to conquer.

Man.. I shared so many books... what a load of crap.

My 1.95 cents.

By 2 cents... sorry.

Perhaps I am missing a needed package?? (the binary included doesn't run on my system...)

Why not try to find the keys? That would be a serious blow to microsoft/nsa security.
