I haven't asked anyone, but I assume everyone can hear it. It IS rather loud (I can hear it from adjacent rooms)... Come to think of it, this might explain how I know when the TV is on when there's no picture on it and other people think it's off...
I highly doubt that. For one, it would be really hard to prioritise the pieces to get the streaming done well, since BT doesn't get exactly the pieces you specify in the order you specify. Streaming would be way way longer, perhaps too long to be useful. The biggest problem, however, would be that since people close the browser window after seeing the video, noone would keep seeding. The last pieces would disappear pretty fast...
How is this legal? I can understand how a tracker is legal, since they aren't hosting the actual files on their own server, but unless they come up with a way to do p2p video streaming, I can't imagine how this will stay up very long.
Why would you want to? I spend more time thinking about it than typing it anyway. It's not like speech, where you don't think about the words. I'm sure I'd hate being like "def getstr... no, getvaria... erm, gettype".
Amen, brother. If you recall, this was an issue with Apple's AirPort (I think), which supported IPv6 and everyone gasped when they found out that all the computers in the internal network had their own IPs. They made Apple implement a NAT in the IPv6 router, how stupid is that? If you want security, block incoming ports, for crying out loud. And Apple actually DID it.
Feel free to correct me if I have any details wrong, I'm not 100% sure.
Sadly, not well. Europe wanted its own search engine, but it is in danger of being permanently stalled (how does that even work, anyway). In the mean time, the world will continue to use the US's government funded search engine.
I think that the "there are N posts beneath your threshold" is misplaced, it should be between the parent and the grandchild, indicating that there is one post at that level.
Has anyone else noticed that the way Slashdot links replies is misleading? It makes you think that my parent is replying to my great-grandparent, while it's actually my grandparent, which is not displayed anywhere. Many replies don't make sense this way. Is this a bug?
Also, the number for the safest safe is something like 5 minutes, I was rather astonished to see that. That, of course, assumes that you have a whole laboratory full of cracking equipment, but still, 5 minutes for the hardest-to-crack safe strikes me as very fast.
I don't understand all this contention over the word "irony". As far as I know, it means words suggesting the opposite of their literal meaning, or, taken to a situation, an absurd incongruity between what's expected to happen and what actually happens (especially when that's the opposite). Even in Greek, we'd say that that situation is pretty ironic (because she came to be judging who got a degree while she had none or whatever).
I'm not trolling or anything, I actually have seen this many times and I would like to know why people argue that this usage of the word "irony" is not acceptable.
Hmm, I didn't catch the reference because I thought that Gödel's theorem stated that a system cannot be both complete and consistent, I doubt it applies here. I also think that Gödel's theorem has actually been proven, but I'm no mathematician...
Man, not only was that an awesome description of what windows does, but you actually spelt "hemorrhage" correctly (although I prefer it with more A). You get +2, Funny from me (well, you would if I had mod points).
What are you talking about? When Beryl breaks (which it is sometimes wont to do, admittedly) and the cube stops spinning, I just CAN'T work with multiple desktops, and I lose a large part of the usability of Gnome. That aside, Vista copied much of Beryl (alt+tab live windows, that rolodex thing, which is win+tab in beryl, if i remember correctly, window previews, etc). Admittedly, the entire Vista graphics experience is much more consistent, but apart from the glass effect, I can't think of anything that Beryl didn't already have.
People modded that post funny, but I'd mod it sad:( If that's the case, why is the article written the way it is? I've frequently noticed posts about wonder drugs that in the end seem to have some deleterious effect on the body, and that's never mentioned.
The problem with producing good CAPTCHAs is that it is hard to find a problem that the computer can easily generate and have the answer for, but cannot solve trivially. Our current CAPTCHAs are a good compromise, but I, at least, have no idea how to create text CAPTCHAs with those properties.

Same with p.ms!

You won't really see it playing Terminator, this thing does like 10 frames per minute (Warning: actual number may vary).
They meant it in a "this'll take centuries" way, not in a "your hard drive lasts 5 minutes and the cracking session 6" way...

No, you're right. We should be thankful to the US, who has always selflessly helped us, without expecting anything in return.
By the way, I'd love to attend your twelfth birthday.

You mean like how the US beat Hitler all by itself? Take it easy, superman.
How did this not get modded "Flamebait"? No matter how true something is, the tone makes the difference between "Insightful" and "Troll".

Afterall if we can figure ourselves out then doesn't that mean that we aren't really all that complex?
You think that making something that can figure itself out is simple?
Ah, thanks for the clarification. It really was kind of sad if you didn't get the reference :/...

Man, I don't know about remastersys, but cat /dev/cdrom > something.iso is awesome.
Can't lose them all...
...they have grandchildren. What do you think *they*'re there for?
(Mod up for correct "they're/there" usage!)
