I'm not sure what you're trying to convey here. The US was, until the early 1900s, politically isolationist. It was the ever-increasing deviance from that doctrine that got it into more and more trouble, though history has shown isolationism today would be impossible and a stupid effort considering the rise of trans-nationalism and a globalized society. Remember the US denial of the communist Chinese government?
If the U.S. hadn't of gotten involved in the Soviet/Afghan war against communism and THEN left behind bases controlled by the U.S. in the supposed Holy land... Bin Laden and the supposed alQaeda would have never gotten their start because the presence of these bases were thier main bitch.
Also, the last time I checked, the citizens still had indirect control over who is the "government". If you don't like it then put more effort and analysis into who you vote for next time around.
Goto about:config in Firefox.
Set this string to true: network.dns.disableIPv6
I don't know why, but having IPv6 enabled slows down the broswer incredibly in Linux... but not on Windows. Turn it off and Firefox loads pages like the rest of 'em.
Relying on Wikinews as a source for information is like relying on Slashdot... both are written by whoever ventures by that think they have something worthwhile to say. No facts needed... just irresponsible rhetoric.
One who distributes a device with the object of promoting its use to DO BODILY HARM... is liable for the resulting acts of BODILY HARM by third parties using the device, regardless of the device's lawful uses.
Sounds great... it's not okay for gun salesmen to encourage the use of thier product to kill people.
It's not okay for P2P client distributors/developers to promote their use to obtain data illegaly.

I would have blanked the HD and installed Ubuntu the first night... and after the lovely administration found out I would 'inform' them in the most unkindly way how their PC-use policy is contradictory with their mission statement. (Must have had the expensive macs sponsored by the **AAs).

A completed download can still be achieved if the swarm has all the pieces of a torrent... eventually they will all get reassembled for a leecher.... who will then hopefully seed.
... that Slashdot is a large auditorium where the entire community sits in the audience and listens to those within the community that have something to say and then give there responses... would you still stand up on stage and say that in front of all the uber-nerds?
The internalization of meta-data search (those torrent files you grab from those tracker sites) within the client will hypothetically remove the community aspect built around tracker websites, thus lowering altruism levels to that of other file sharing networks.
RTFA... they are talking about what will happen when clients are released that allow someone to download without uploading, getting around the TFT system. When the individual torrent swarms become saturated with leeches that use these hypothetical modified clients, what happens to the over-all BitTorrent network/protocol in the long-run?
I for one enjoy the tradition of reading the many articles and new Google product roll-outs posted on April Fool's Day and wondering whether they are actually true. Gmail anyone?
The Juan de Fuca faultline news is close to 2 weeks old... They're now preparing dives to observe the ocean floor. Mt. St. Helens has been grumbling and burping since last October. Related? Probably not... different faultlines = different geologic plumbing. Just because these events happended in close chronological proximity doesn't provide any evidence that they're connected.
Everyone knows that global warming is a catastrophic problem and that humans are messing with the natural, balanced flow of the environment. Well, the reality is that scientific studies and scientists themselves are providing evidence that this is not so. The balanced and ancient flow of nature?... nope. The environment is always evolving and changing. Example: the ancient redwood forests of California. They are only six thousand years old and their current presence is because they invaded the primary forests that were there before that. Is this what your post metaphorically implies: People don't care about the facts and science, only what they percieve to be common knowledge or the rhetoric they heard on the 10 o'clock news?
The geographical Roanoke did not disappear under water like Atlantis did... neither was it very legendary in a mythical sense. It was the first British colony in America and the colonists simply disappeared without a trace, most likely killed by the local tribe.
