    Who modded this guy up? I just went to the site and here are some results.

    MacBook spec comparison.

    Comparable Dell to Apple's cheapest: $200 cheaper for the Dell, 100 MHz slower, but three times the memory, larger display, 200GB more hard drive space, better graphics card.

    Up the ante a bit to Apple's "highest" default config for a MacBook: $396 cheaper for the Dell, 1GB more memory, larger display, 70GB more hard drive space, better graphics card.

    Feel free to post some screenshots of these magically cheaper laptops, cause I'm not seeing it.

    I thought it was good experience from a "oh crap everything broke what do I look at first" perspective. The troubleshooting skills were definitely worth it. Then again, I did my 3 years in help desk during college, and avoided it like the plague after graduation.

    I'd also like to add that the HDI certifications are a joke.

    I think you're forgetting that you are paying for the data connection as well.

    Oh, and on AT&Ts network my bandwidth tests return sustained 1Mbps+ connections. HSDPA is a wonderful thing! You can thank yourself for purchasing a phone that only supports a slower, last generation technology.

    Yes, there are a lot of servers running Unix(-like) environments, but don't forget the massive number of enterprise PCs sitting on people's desks.

    Don't kid yourself Apple guy, while OS X may be trickling into the consumer market a bit more, that first link I posted (accidentally posted AC above) is far more representative of the actual market. Holding 91% of the total market share is much more representative. Looking back a few years, it's falling at about 1% a year. Saying it's dropping by 13% in the next 8 months is ludicrous.

    Before the flames hit, my 3 computers at home run Fedora, with one dual boot into windows for the occasional gaming.

    Just curious, how much did you pay for your 2.8 GHz P4 in 2000? Seeing as though that processor wasn't released until August 2002, you must have spent a load of cash!

    8 years ago was still P3 time. The original P4 wasn't released until late 2000.

Wait, the iPhone OS X can run on a several devices, with as little as a 133 MHz processor with 16MB of RAM?
    Wait, Apple didn't have to customize OS X to run on the iPhone, it was perfect the way it was?
    Wait, it's easier for people to develop and distrubte applications for the iPhone, even though the ability isn't avaiable yet?

    Are these guys supposed to be taken seriously?

    Are those the kind that they use at IMAX theaters? If so I'll pass...you have to sit perfectly still at the correct angle for them to work. Great for a 5 minute clip, terrible for a 90 minute movie.

    The poster stated they didn't want to replace their entire movie collection by upgrading to Bluray. I pointed out that, unlike the VHS to DVD transition, the new technology plays the old technology, and actually improves it. Therefore, the above poster would indeed not be required to replace their collection, as they implied.

    Yes, they did. This is the official beta release from Apple. No hacking needed (assuming you're an actual dev).

    ...I have no plans to replace them. You realize that BD players can play, and even upconvert, your existing DVDs right? They kinda added that feature in with the realization that consumers don't want to replace their current collection.

    Because normal people are (legitimately) sending exe files all the time, right? If my Mom ever has to call me up to ask how to email me the exe of the recipe manager program she just compiled from the code she wrote from scratch, that's fine with me.

    I guess I never had any problems with Comcast's speeds, at least in Hudson anyway. Had the 8Mb there, and regularly got pretty close (~7.3Mb usually). Charter, on the other hand...

    how can DTS or dolby sue creative on something creative had NO PART IN DOING?? Ignoring the whole "the owners of this forum aren't responsible for what people post", people still go after the owners for doing so. Just like how you're not allowed to post links to warez on here. If the owner turns a blind eye to it, the owner of the original content can still go after the forum owner. Even though Creative wasn't directly assisting this guy, they still were letting it go on. Don't take a stand, get sued. Simple as that.

    For further examples, look at every "Torrent tracker taken down" story posted. Trackers aren't hosting the files, but they're still allowing their users to do it.
