  1. missing options on An Essay On Subscription Television · · Score: 2, Interesting

"Who would pay $1.99 to download a television episode that only costs about $0.0014 to see on cable?" Who would pay $0.0014 to see it on cable while you can download it on your favorite torrent site for free?

  2. Beep beep beep on 10 Terrible Portrayals of Technology in Film · · Score: 1

What about those computers/electronics/bombs that beeps every 5 seconds or everytime you type something. If they really beep like that in real life, it will drive anyone insane just thinking how many beeps it would have made just from typing this message! and what's with the bombs beeping and have all the flashing leds and counters on them, make them easier to find?

  5. Re:Military application on Fly-by-Wireless Plane Takes to the Sky · · Score: 1

Like I said, this system can be useful as a ***BACKUP*** or last resort. You want to worry about using this system to limb home with the chance of the enemy jaming your flight controls or you embed yourself the straight to the ground because all the other flight controls were shot out?

  6. Military application on Fly-by-Wireless Plane Takes to the Sky · · Score: 2, Interesting

This can be useful for military application. In the past, flight controls were mechanically linked or fire by wire, which means they all have some wire/cable/shaft..etc running through the plane and were subjected to damage especially in combat situations. While they usually have multiple backup systems, there have been cases that there were multiple failures due to enemy fire before. I can see the benefit of this wireless system can be use as a backup system.

  7. same group... on Best Buy Invaded By Blue Shirt Improv Artists · · Score: 4, Interesting

FYI, this is the same group that did the fake U2 roof top concert the day before U2 actually plays in NY.

  8. More realistic on In-Game Advertising Poised for Explosive Growth · · Score: 4, Informative

I actually like seeing real life ads in games, games like SWAT4 with real movie posters or real coke machine makes it much more realistic IMO. But then of course it will get annoying if it's too intrusive, like flyers/posters everywhere on the wall and floor. On another note, I found it interesting that in SWAT4, most of the computers in the game are destructible, while the one with ads on the screen are indestructible.

  9. Re:Impact to US users with Chinese hosting compani on China Bans Running Your Own Email Server · · Score: 1

No, under the policy of "One Country, Two Systems" Hong Kong retains its own legal system, currency, customs policy, and immigration laws (mostly leftover system from the British) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_country%2C_two_sy stems So this is no difference than running a server in America....at least that's what's going on for now and the Chinese government do increasingly influence the Hong Kong government these days.

  10. Slow startup... on The Future of the PDA · · Score: 1

"but there is also pressure from small laptops, the upcoming UMPC" I have used a Toshiba Libretto 50 for a few years (until I got a Treo 600 couple years ago). The biggest problem I had with this kind of "palmtop" is that the startup time is way too long to be productive. Even with a clean install of Windows, it still takes more than 30 sec to start up and at least 15 seconds for it to come back from hibernation to fully functioning, while a pda will comes back on the moment you press the power button. 30 second startups may be fine if you are using it just as a regular pc, but if you just need to check your address book or email while waiting in line at the post office, that is too long.

  14. This product may be returned...... on Apple Upgrades Mac mini, Doesn't Tell Anybody · · Score: 4, Informative

Oh great....now Fry's is going to run out of return labels. Oh the slightly related note, I have a Toshiba Libretto 50 which supposed to only have a Pentium 75 on it. But by the time mine was built, Intel has stopped making P75 and Toshiba ended up putting a P120 in it and underclock it to 75mhz....didn't take long before someone noticed that and a few soldering later, we have P120 Libretto 50s :-)

  15. Blame the spell checker... on Hackers, Spelling, and Grammar? · · Score: 1

Really, ever since I started using word processors, I just totally rely on the spell checkers. Sometimes even some simple words will stomp me for a while. My reliance on spell checker grew worse and worse, now I have to have a spell checker running at all times for all the email, IM, message boards. In case you are looking for it, Tiny Spell does a great job.

  16. Too late? on Microsoft to Introduce PDF competitor 'Metro' · · Score: 3, Insightful

I think they are a bit late in the game, given that most people are used to PDF and have PDF reader installed already. It's like Firefox, sure it made IE dropped below 90%, that's still a tiny splash and I don't think it will have the chance to become the majority.

They don't care about anything, I made a few returns before, and they didn't even bother to open up the boxes to check the contents (even though I have broken the seals). Also, there are some "self checkout" lanes in some of their stores. There's supposed to be someone watching you remotely during the process, but I guess they don't care much either.
