  1. What are you using to track? on Tracking a Specific Machine Anywhere On The Net · · Score: 4, Interesting

I am under the assumption that a packet sniffer needs to be somewhere in-line to accomplish this tracking? I mean if person X is sniffing traffic off router Y and then person X moves to another geographic location and uses router Z the person tracking this box won't get squat? And for the purpose of telling how many systems are in a network that is using NAT, well aren't there dozens of ways to do that already? This sounds to me more along the lines of really neat idea that won't have a real practical use. And using clock skews doesn't seem to sound viable either as there are millions of systems online and with different time zones and that amount of systems how many will have the same skew. (I am no expert on clock skews so maybe I am misunderstanding this)

  2. Not Censorship? on Vonage's CEO Says VoIP Blocking Is 'Censorship' · · Score: 1, Offtopic

So if I block VoIP at my border routers and at my CI's does that mean I am censoring free speech? No it just means my organization doesn't use VoIP and doesn't need to have associated ports open to allow that traffic through. So is disallowing my internal phone system to make international calls censorship of free speech as well?

Personally I would be very wary of a salary increase that high. Take a look at the company and how stable it is. That is the kind of hiring that I have seen in the past from startups that think they have a lot to spend, but either wind up crashing and burning or going through a firing cycle when they figure out they have paid too much. Do you think you are that severely underpaid compared to your peers? If not then just looking at the dollar signs in a job situation like this might not be worth it in the end....

It really depends on your situation to say whether or not you made a good or bad choice. I learned the hard way that giving up a job without having another lined up can have really bad effects. If you have bills to pay and a family to support then you need to take a good, hard look at the situation your in and ask yourself is it so terrible that I can't stay until I find something I like better.

Why don't people just give up on complaining how bad the USA is because they can't get free music and videos. OK so I make widgets right and I copyright/patent my widgets. Then another person makes a 100 percent exact copy of my widget and starts giving it away for free. Now less people want to buy my widget, which I have worked long and hard to develop because they can get it for free. This causes me financial loss. There it is in simple terms. Now comparing VoIP to this scenario and how the US is handling it is plain stupid. We are not talking about a copy of technology we are talking about new technology that is replacing old technology and obviously Costa Rica thinks that this is a threat to them. (Not agreeing what-so-ever that they are in the right for criminalizing use of VoIP because I think that is a truly stupid move on their part.) Also I am guessing that you fall under the 98% literacy rate, but your spelling needs work "constiuentcy".

The broadcasting companies and the on-air personalities are not necessarily intentionally breaking FCC rules. Now there are people like Howard Stern who push the limit and go over knowingly, but in their defense the FCC does not clearly define what is allowed and disallowed. (A good example of this is that some DJ's are afraid to even make fart sounds on air because it may be deemed offensive). The FCC should come down and make a very clear ruling on what they consider offensive and what is finable and what is not. Also the broadcasting companies are also fined if the callers use inappropriate language or say something offensive on the air. (Yes there is a delay button, but if the caller is persistent then they can get around the delay because it has to reset.)

I'm sorry but doling out fines based on capitol that a company or an agency is total crap. So with that logic lets say a local mom and pop pharmacy accidentally gives out the wrong prescription. We should fine them only $1000, but if Walmart does the same thing well they are a big company and they should get fined 1 million. What needs to happen is the government takes a hard look at finable offenses across the boards and does a total revamp based on severity/consequences of actions or inactions.
