No idea why I feel the need to respond to a AC Troll post, but its that kind of morning so I will. Like every country, the US has different problems where corporate, government and common people butt heads, but for the most part we do have Liberty and Freedom. As a whole an individual can do great things here and live a great life. I'm sure this AC must live in some unknown Utopia where everything goes right for everyone all of the time. Wake up and smell the real world. There are goods and bads in every country and the US has plenty of the former to make up for the latter.
I wonder how many man hours and tax dollars were spent in coming up with a nifty acronym. Money could have been saved by just calling it the Anti SpyWare Act
This was a very, very, very dumb thing to do on his part. I could see the courts giving him some leniency if he was 12, but at 43 years of age I think he will get what he deserves. Does anyone know if the worm caused any delays in getting through to the 911 system that caused serious injury or death?
This is what I find amusing about states and their differences in laws. LA recently had a similar case where a man used a keylogger to keep tabs on his employer. This was ruled as not breaking wiretap laws.

Blame your sorry ass parenting skills and not a video game, or a tv show or a movie on these kinds of incidents. I am truly sick and tired of people whining about this bullshit argument. Look at other cultures around the world and how violent their television shows are (ummm Japanimation!) and then look at the discipline their children show. Just because you parents can't put forth enough of an effort to control your children don't try and pawn the blame off on those who should remain blameless.
Just as an FYI. Lawsuits for small claims that are won by the individual suing will usually end up resulting in a much larger monetary settlement. They do this because no one in their right mind would sue a company for lets say $30 even if they were in the right. The judge may award $300 instead. It happens quite frequently in contractual disputes.
Do people really not understand the point of view of the MPAA or even the RIAA when it comes to copyright infringement? I love that the ability exists for me to download movies or music for free, but in doing that I know that I am basically getting something free that I should have paid for. The plain and simple fact is that actors, artists, labels, producers, film studios and etc create and sell a product. Someone then takes that product and redistributes it for free so others do not have to pay the makers for it. This causes an impact to the makers profit (and yes I know that in most cases they severely buff up the impact and it is nowhere near a one to one ratio but it still is an impact). Just admit that what is happening is wrong and move on. If you get caught then you get caught and if the laws in your country are applicable then you may or may not get in trouble. Comparing what is going on here to fascism or the nazi's is ridiculous. If you wrote a book and started selling that book for X amount of money and then another person made an exact copy of that book and started giving it away for free you would pursue action as well.
Simple fact: Copying and redistributing copyrighted material is illegal so don't whine about it when you get caught.
They are coming after Vin Diesel...
In other news a group of 20 people dressed in full Nike running suits just committed mass suicide in hopes that the ETs traveling in the wake of the asteroid take them to their home planet of Stoopidia.
Am I behind the times in cool admin speak or was this simply boxes mispelled? In any case I could definitely see this being used for both good and bad.
Is that the same Longhorn that was supposed to have such high level requirements for operation that no current system can run it. I would guess that it is going to cost a fortune so it better have a better browser!
I used to be a big Star Trek fan, but I grew out of it. There will always be some form of ST series on because there is always a large following. I would love to see something of this nature work where the fans chip in money to make a series happen. I would love to see something like this happen for a Wheel of Time miniseries or a Icewind Dale miniseries that was actually good (not something like the piece of crap Earth Sea miniseries) On the other hand if this works out I hope it doesn't spur producers to start expecting monies from fans to keep series alive.
For me I have a lot of family who has worked in various third-world environments helping to try to bring about a better quality of life and I'm sorry, but bringing in laptops is not going to create a big impact. Remember that in most of these areas people are not growing up to be tech's, they are simply aspiring to maintain a family and have a decent life. I just think that money for laptops can be better spent. I am not saying keep them uneducated. Books and teaching materials that are given to these areas are not expensive (like the books we need to purchase here) There are more important things that are needed to sustain life for them. Now for areas that are considered third-world, but have a decent quality of life and can use this additional technology then I say go for it. (Yes there are varying degrees of third-world nations) But there has to be the architecture in place for those laptops to be useful (e.g. Internet connectivity and or some other form of bringing in new material and uploading it to the laptops, but if they are cheap laptops then space obviously becomes an issue as well)
Because a laptop is gonna fill a hungry stomach. For areas that are truly poor and need better education doesn't it seem a little over-the-top to give them laptops. How about sticking with regular old books (which are hard enough to teach without having to teach how to use a laptop on top of that) and using any extra money for things like oh... food, medicine, housing development, water treatment, agriculture, etc, etc, etc...
Onyxruby has hit the nail on the head with his comment. There has been a call forever to make a true definition of Art, but it is simply too hard. Most definitions that you can find do however state that Art has to be human created, but of course you can argue that a human created the software, which created the picture so then it can be Art.... Its just too debatable a subject. I think the definition of Art should be anything created that at least someone finds appealing is Art. (Scary thing is with that definition Windows is Art OMG!)
From my viewpoint although a lot of these laws and mandates are a pain in the ass they do lead to people trying to find new and possibly better products/methodologies to get around them. Its the strengthen the product versus develop new/different products argument and sometimes new/different is definitely better.
(Hell I bet if there was a law that was detrimental to Windows we might actually get a better product from them!)
I wonder if it could affect critical systems because wouldn't certain systems like traction control or anti-lock breaking use an OS of some sort. Now the question is would it be an integrated OS that is used by multiple systems. I would hope it is not like that but personally I have no idea. I think the thought is scary though.

It is giant cave dwelling space cows!
I think Zaphod Beeblebrox holds the key to optimal robot design. Not only does he have multiple arms, but also an extra head!

That word makes me think of one thing... FLASHDANCE!

Degree's don't mean crap. If you have the experience and skillsets and not the degree you still can be an engineer.

That a 70 year old person driving with a cell phone turns into a 120 year old.
Before they come out and say that they have patented the process of offering free advice like they did with Amazon and recommending books!
I thought this was an advertisement for my local tanning salon at first. Jeez what a disappointment.
