I am using Linux (Fedora) both at my work and home laptops and I do not have any problem with it. Its very interesting to see my colleagues struggling with malware, viri on there M$ latops. Sometime they kill almost all of there working hours fixing there M$ and on the other hand since i have installed my work lappy (1 year ago) i never faced any issue. consequently I can work instead of wasting time and wondering about data loose due to infected system. Linux might not be ready as desktop alternative for other but for me it is _ready_ coz at work there is nothing to stop me from using Linux :)

I'm using virtualbox from quit sometime now. Running M$ XP and Solaris vms on Fedora 9 host. vms performance is excellent, however with 1gb ram on host i have to run one vm at a time. Upgrading virtualbox is smooth ie download the rpm and rpm -Uvh, however each time Fedora folks release new kernel i have to recreate virtualbox kernel module but again its not virtualbox but fedora for pushing new kernels after every few days :).

  15. nagios is great NMS on Nagios 3 Enterprise Network Monitoring · · Score: 0

I have configured nagios for mid size organization for monitoring servers such as Linux, M$ plus over 1200 services and also for monitoring cisco routers and switches. nagios is not difficult to install/configure however while monitoring 1000+ can't be done in single day. most of the time one have to copy/paste the configuration for identical hosts. Once installed and configured properly nagios is a great NMS for sysadmins in term of notifications of server or service failure. Beauty of nagios is that you can integrated it to varity of services such jabber, email, sms, alarms. nagios will notify service/server failure by email in my case i have configured it to integrate it with our sms gateway (running gnokii) to notify not only just giving alerts on web interface but also by sending emails to conern ppl and also SMS. I found it a great asset for any IT dept and no organziation these days lives without a NMS and nagios is great NMS.

All this happen cause Danish newspaper published cartoons, I am only asking can't we just stop making fun of each other to live in peace? There are lot of other things that can be publish to give raise to the circulation of newspaper then making fun of other's religion. Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny population and in last few years they are making lot of fun of Muslim umma feelings I wonder they will be doing this if Denmark was located bordering Afghanistan or Pakistan? guess not... they are doing this coz they thinks EU is safe heaven to make fun of Islam. Here not a single newspaper ever published any material which could hurt the feelings of other religions so we or they are insane? Who says youtube is block for me here in .pk? what the hack all these open proxies for ? go and pick one and use in your favorite browser.

  22. KVM support on Linux 2.6.20-rc6 Kernel Performance · · Score: 0

KVM is another virtualization which make into linux main line kernel one must have latest processors with VT support to play with kvm virtualization. we are using UML from years which is also part of main line kernel thanks to Jdike for maintaining UML. I heard that j.Dike is working on to making UML run under KVM, I am sure this will make UML much faster. I don't know why big brothers Redhat etc only supporting one virtualizaton ie Xen, pity on xen which doesn't make into main line kernel from last two years and i am sure they have already stopped struggling for it :S, look like xen is going death end. In my personal experience xen is PITA. I am sure in end linux will become itself virtual, where no one will need to look into xen.
