  1. Re:Why is this bad? on Hillary, GTA, and High School Football · · Score: 1

Yah but if Hilary spearheads the study, inevitably it will be found that games influence younger minds to become violent or make poor decisions.

Conversly, if Take-Two spearheaded the study and it was found that videogames are great for kids in the ways the article discusses, and that football is just as bad as we think videogames are, then the study will washed out by the political masses as being biased.

  3. Face it... on Apple to Become Wireless Provider? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Wireless is a thing of the future, everything, eventually, will be wireless (unless an evironment or process forbids it).

Also, combining devices is also a thing of the future..it doesn't make sense to have 3 different devices with three different chargers that can't communicate, or communicate with some beat-arse protocol

It was destined that the iPod, since it is the defacto portable music player would become wireless, integrated with a cellphone, and eventually into a PDA/ICBM launcher.

The integration could go the other way, with the cellphone becoming the Mp3 player, but since the iPod is proven, and has a large fan-base (who in all likely-hood own cellphones), going in this direction will snare many more people.

FYI - I am an Electrical Engineer, working at a power company that is currently investigating this technology...

With that being said, the modification of the power system for use in a smaller area is very minimal depending on the type of installation. There are various different ways that technologies are going at the problem of getting the data from the power-line to the customer.

To get it in the vicinity of the customer, they put a modem, or something equivalent, at the circuit exit of the substation which would then in burn be connected to the internet via fiber or some other sort of heavy data-tranismission protocol.

The signal is then sent down the line and piped into a customers house one of many ways, one being a wireless connection from the pole-top to their house. Others being a coupling device transfers the signal from the several thousand volt (up to 14kV) to the 120V/240V wire into your home....from there you can plug a modem into a power outlet, and voila...

Build a spaceship and accessories that will get us to Mars safely and quickly, but then to test it on trips to and from the moon?

It seems that developing hardware and software for a Moon trip. Then developing more hardware and software for a Mars trip might be a little cumbersome and expensive.

IMHO, it would be more beneficial for us to build the Mars equipment, and fly it around space for a few months (simulate a trip to Mars in time duration), but always be within a (relatively) short & safe distance from Earth.

I think that I have to disagree with you, to a degree. While I give you that there are a lot of rehashed plotlines (aliens on mars), the introduction of new technology into videogames does give designers more options.

When the nintendo was first released, who would have believed that we'd be able to play head to head, across the globe on the internet from our couches? This new technology incorporated into home entertainment systems does allow designers to try new things, go out on a limb. Even the advanced microprocessors in the PS2 allow us to model physics in a more realistic sense (your favorite Katamari)...

Before Katamari, you never would have thought about a game like that, not a million years, but whos to say that exact thing isn't going happen with the new Playstation or XBOX? Certainly not you, me, or anyone else here....

Nobody can tell you what the next revolutionary idea is, nobody has thought of it yet, so for you to declare that these consoles won't have anything except a shiny coat of paint is ridiculous...

It wouldn't have been exciting if nothing unexpected happens...even if the even isn't accurate...

If you really want an explanation: Maybe the computer sensors detect the large mass of the nearby planet, and create the artificial gravity field in a particular orientation in order to generate a sense of 'up & down' when in close proximity to something like a planet.
