  1. Re:Server or Desktop on Linux Grows 27.1% in China · · Score: 1

I've been in China for three years now and have yet to meet a single person who runs Linux. I'm always interested to meet CS majors here and ask them about their studies. I've yet to find one who runs Linux at home OR for class. Most of them have heard of linux, but none are excited about it. It's a Windows world over here, and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

Perhaps even more disturbing is that this does not appear to be a news item covered in the mainstream US media.

Exactly. It's clear that the control of media by large, profit-motivated corporations might not be in the best interests of a democratic society.

  3. Re:Was it Ramen? on Four Millennia Old Noodles Found In China · · Score: 2, Interesting

La Mian literally translates as pulled noodles. They're a specialty of northwestern China and incredible delicious, but to really appreciate them you have to see them made.

The noodle chef starts with a well worked ball of dough, rolls it into a rope like thing, takes one end in each hand, pulls it as wide as his armspan while swinging it up and down, doubles it over between his hands and repeats until it's been stretched thin enough. I realize my description doesn't do it justice, but to see it is to be amazed. It's usually served in a bowl of beef broth with meat, cilantro and onions, but you can get 'em fried too. There's nothing like handmade noodles.

It should mean the latter but in common use it's starting to instead mean the former. As much as you'd like to, you can't control the direction a language takes. A language is its common usage.

Not portable? I'm inclined to agree, but then why are PSP movie sales through the roof? It seems that a market already exists.

If Apple can match the PSP's screen quality and beat its ease of use (by making movies downloadable, perhaps) they might have something.

What are you on about? Let me guess: you live in a gated community and you and your other nouveau riche friends occasionally take your Cessna down to Mexico for the weekend. While there you stay in a secure resort, safe from any undesirables. In your Calvinist world, decent people are well off and if anyone has to struggle to pay the bills, you're pretty sure it's due to moral failings. And like any decent American, you would never call yourself rich. You're average! Middle class! "I buy vases you can use, not like those RICH folks with their ridiculous Ming vases! HA HA HA!!"

Wake up. You're upper class. We will eat you.

*cough* so... yeah, crazy weather lately, eh?

Yes, but you should be able to. This is a longstanding bug; in about:config there is a "browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" setting, but setting it to true does not change the behavior.

However, command(apple key)-clicking will open the link in a new tab, shift-click will open the link in a new window, option-click will download the linked file.

Middle-click will open the link in a new tab in Safari.
