    > I'm witness to the awesome power of FUD.

This has nothing to do with FUD, am I wrong for disagreeing with the way the FSF is handling things as of late? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine just so happens to be that if things keep going the way they are I may decide to look to other operating systems. Why would I stay with a community when I don't agree with the way they practice things?

It's not that I have a problem with OSS, I like the general idea of it and I applaud anyone that is part of the community, even I have released source code for a plugin that I created which used GPL source code. On my webiste www.nfxplugins.com you can download the package of plugins and you will see I have included the source for a plugin that used the Reihnhard04 method of tone mapping source code.

I'm in the vfx industry and over the years I've picked up programming plugins for the applications I use. Now I don't use other peoples code because frankly I'm just doing math calculations and using the internals of the applications they are being coded for.

That being said all this GPL3, tivo this tivo that stuff is confusing the hell out of me. I release my plugins free to anyone using the applications they are designed for, I don't however release the source code. You can call me lazy all you want and generally I will agree you are correct, but this license mine field that I have to worry about when making my plugins on Linux is getting annoying to say the least. I work long enough days making the stuff you see on tv and the movies look pretty so I don't have time to go following up on all this license news.

Fault Windows all you want but the worries you have with licenses on Windows is slightly less then Linux, notice I SLIGHTLY easier. I'm halfway tempted to switch my development to a Mac and dump my Linux support to not worry about it ever again. This is pretty sad since I ENJOY Linux, I've been running nothing but Linux the past 5 years. I have better things to do then worry "Opps, shit did I link with something that requires I release the source".

Like I have said in all my previous posts I like Linux, I like it a lot, but I'm sorry to say I don't view the FSF as the best people representing Linux. This is just my very small insignificant opinion and I have no problem with others disagreeing, if things keep going the way they are though I might just have to start looking at another platform. And no I don't say this because I think people care whether I use linux or not, I say it because I DONT WANT TO USE ANYTHING ELSE.

Desktop on windows is the same as Desktop on linux, $HOME is not the desktop last I checked, yes Desktop is located in the home directory same as windows is in Documents and settings which is what $HOME is on linux. I don't see why or how moving USER installed applications into a Applications folder inside $HOME would be that big a deal. What is wrong with suggesting a root folder inside $HOME be a location where user applications are installed? It would be nice if say ubuntus synaptic could be launched as non-root and in doing so would install applications into $HOME or maybe another directory specified. I think some are missing the point of what I mean by USER applications, I'm talking about downlaoding firefox, picasa, my work apps, etc and running them in synaptic as non-root that installs them in $HOME/Applications. I'm sorry that you find browsing the confusing tree that /usr has become as not a problem, me on the other hand I get annoyed with it, not to mention their are so many similar tree structures that it gets confusing just where shit has gone. /usr/local/share, /usr/share, /usr/share/icons/, /usr/local/icons I'm sorry but $HOME/Applications/Icons would be nicer for my apps that I want to install just for my user.

I just tend to think it would be easier to have them installed in a $HOME/Applications directory. Also sometimes applications don't use config files stored in $HOME, sometimes even if they do you can customize the application even more by messing with files in the install directory, that process involves sudo root etc which is an extra step that could be delt with easier if they were in $HOME to begin with. Sure I understand my request isn't a huge one and yes I do get by with the current state of things, that however isn't to say that I still don't wish for a more central location preferably located in $HOME to begin with.

I wish all applications like gimp, xchat, etc installed into home instead of /usr/whatever.

I'm sure someone will chime in as to why its better or cooler to install in /usr/whatever but as a desktop os I kinda like how Apple does things when it comes to install locations. It would be nice to know $HOME/Applications stores all my installed software, one central location for all my applications instead of /opt/*, /usr/local, /usr/local/share, /usr/local/games etc. Like I said someone will probably tell me why I'm wrong for wanting this but for the average joe like myself it doesn't make sense.

On top of this they've implemented object D while completely leaving out A,B,and C which is why you'd even put feature D in. Every new release I still find myself messing around with it and all the while still not understanding how or why people likes its work flow.

Creating an object while having it placed where some 3d cursor is without having a option to tell it "No create it a the center of the scene like every other peice of 3d software known to man" is just crazy to me. Even more crazy then that is not being able to select an object and have a window show its properties. When I say that please don't point me to the crude layouts to see a objects properties all over the place, instead go use Autodesks Maya, Softimage XSI, or 3DS Max and thats what I'm looking for. On top of that the floating property windows which are in blender have very small text and the input values are a pain in the ass to edit. Most of all though they way you select objects, polygons, vertices etc are just wtf. I just don't like how many of the open source projects that end up geting past the crash every 2 mins phase, always end up reinventing the wheel when it comes to how things are done and have been done. Why can't they see "Hey every other 3d app has done it this way since the beginning of time. Maybe theirs something good about that method" instead of saying "No this is open source freedom of choice roxors so lets do it the opposite regardless if it helps you with work or not". It's sad they do things so far from the norm with certain interactions and presenting data to the user, because all it means to me is Softimage and Autodesk will continue to get my money next year and the year after and etc etc.

He then took this number and averaged it to the number of songs downloaded per person. The result which he gave is most likely nowhere near the actual average. The problem with these kind of statistics is they never account for the user reformating windows 10 times in a day "I've done that with linux to..
