    I am not yet running multiple OSes on my PC yet. I don't want them virtualized because (I figure) they'll run slower. I kinda feel that way about my phone too. Still they are looking ahead. It might help somebody/someday. So why not.

    That site seems to be about library. I think it would be handy to have simple command line tools - like:

    odf2txt myfile.odf myfile.txt

    getcell d7 mysheet.cal

    changecell d7 123 mysheet.cal

    etc.

    I hate having to wait for the confirm shutdown dialog. Gnome displays the dialog but it defaults to doing the shutdown in 60 seconds so you can walk away. Nice.

    I think the main reason for jQuery and Prototype is to insulate the programmer from browser idiosyncrasies. And Microsoft's IE (mostly IE6) is the main cause of them!!!

    Because that's not the Linux/Unix way.
    And because everything eventually touches mail so that means everything would have to be integrated into "one solution".

    Well, my idea of ideal freedom is: live and let live.

    But when your freedoms begin to impinge on my freedoms then its time to limit yours. For example I can own property and complain when you come on it uninvited. Seems to me a lot of killing machines (guns) in everyone's hands is a danger to me so should be limited. No hypocrisy there.

    Well, sure but this isn't just any software developer. Word format documents probably hold 80% of the world's knowledge. Including tons of publicly funded stuff - eg laws, research, etc.
    So its important that this stuff be readable in the future and able to be shared.

    If you a Bell customers downloading something with Bittorrent its very possible that some of your peers are also Bell customers. Do the throttle this traffic also? They should encourage this kind of traffic since it doesn't traverse their Internet gateways.

    Many languages already have common commands/function - eg print split substr. I'd like to see a standards body codify this. This way switching languages would be easier since they'd share more in common.

    I have noticed often I search for a word and get pages the only contain synonyms (or variations on the word). Likewise for the handling of accents search for resumé and you'll find pages with resume.
