I find the comment that the firewall is unpredictable to be interesting. Do Slashdoters think that this is on purpose so it can't be studied and subverted or is it just a case of banning the BBC when they have anti-Chinese content or is it just a case of a huge bureaucracy being contradictory (as they often are).
Why does it have to be one program multithreading? Maybe a user is applying a Photoshop filter while doing a 3D render while ftping a file. Each can run on a different core.
Rather that a source code level system I'd prefer a way of replacing loadable kernel modules without a reboot. Then push more code into modules -- eg file system. (Hey sounds like a micro-kernel).
Whether its really needed or not doesn't matte to me. The main thing is we can laugh harder at Windows users who have to reboot to install applications!
Size of the machine is a big issue for me. I like small for portability.
I have a nice non-widescreen laptop. If the screen was wider then there would be empty space on the bottom half of the clamshell - to the left and right of the keyboard.
To me... the screen should be the size of a reasonable keyboard. No bigger no smaller.
The committee should also alter the name (perhaps by inserting "Microsoft") so it isn't so similar to ODF. Its only fair. ODF=OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications. It has the name of the source organization. Renaming OOXML to MSOOXML would make thing clearer.
For starters this new committee can specify what spacelikeword95 means. Its kinda funny that its does not say spaceExactlyTheSameAsWord95 but just "like".
Most science isn't controversial. But for some reason the right wingers like to ignore all of it -- not just evolution and cloning. I think they somehow think science is out to get them. I suppose if you make polluting cars it is in a way.
I don't think they did any market research in Canada when they used the name "Harpertown".
Which group in Canada?
This sounds a bit desperate. Like a kid paying
to get a date for the prom.
Wouldn't "proxy DNS server" be a better term?
This reads like a joke.
Obvious but will be nice.

Seems funny to interview a magazine author. Why doesn't he just write an article about it?
If only Google would innovate a bit ;)
A shipping container of Microsoft stuff. That's quite a bit more than I want!
Can't beat a pi cake!

Widescreen is a waste.
Good question.
Certainly the area in question is more likely to be photographed.

DNSSec and IPSec are too fancy.
Just begin every internet communication with STARTTLS. Works for ftp, pop3, imap, smtp and soon http.
Might be a good time to start up a ISP that doesn't throttle.
Of course, the should ban Microsoft for monopolistic practices.

Maybe you want to consider hosting psiphon server?
http://psiphon.civisec.org/
It make sense that the viewer should contribute some bandwidth.
However, sadly, there are lots .net jobs.
Microsoft's clone of Java.
So maybe in a couple years there will be demand for Microsoft's clone of Flash.
