There are zillions of programs that can crash or otherwise deplete all the resources on a system. Eg fork many processes, fill/tmp, tight loop that does nothing, etc. I am sure these types of programs would also cripple Windows boxes. I suppose the answer is not allow access to a compiler for non-trusted shell users.

Yeah, for example it uses glEnable() from Windows.
In Canada I would say its called a lift or elevator depending on if it is enclosed or not. Elevators are. Wheelchair raising platforms and fork lifts are not enclosed.
Anybody remeber the "Logo" computer that was developed by the Ontario Ministry of Education. In the eary PC days. (No, I don't mean the Logo language.)
So his/her country is smaller than yours.
He/she and fellow citizens can only work
on improving their own country. And I'd say
they have good reason to be prowd of their achievement.
Since you mention Chicago... isn't it on a huge lake and called the windy city?! Chicago has a cold winter. Did you know cold winds are better for windmills (more force or something).
I am inclined to agree with Tanenbaum on micro-kernels. Especially when you have lots of contributors (like for Linux) its make sense to go for robustness over speed and put solid walls between the services. Now if somebody makes a new filesytem they have to beg Linus to get it in and it takes years before its in a mainstream distro. Things should be more plugin-able.
Yes, you are right. I made a typo and thanks for not calling me a dumbass.
By the way, I tried that Minux (minimal Linux, I guess). Seems like a really neat idea - a one floppy Linux. It printed "Loading" (or something like that) then printed out some garbage (maybe a register dump) in an infinite loop. Too bad. This was on a Pentium 4 that has run Windows2000 and PhatLinux.
I starting download using BitTorrent around 10:00am ET when it was official released but the download rate was horrible (like 5 KiB/s). Then arround noon it got really fast (like 200 KiB/s)!!! What happened?! That was when this article was posted on Slashdot so I had more peers to talk to - maybe the first reverse slashdotting ever.
How can you say "GIFs aren't lossless, they're limited to 8-bit indexed colour." If you are trying to save an image with more than 256 colors... some color info will be lost. So its lossy of color!
As a Canadian I don't feel ashamed when one Canadian company (this is a private company -- not government owned) invests in a nasty company. Do you feel bad when one Canadian person does something bad?! You don't bear responsibility for every company and person in the country.
A major thing wrong with those price calculations is that fact that Google has probably neen buying a few (hundred) machines a month for the last few years. Also old machines (and some new ones) die and are retired. So the cost is probably very messy. Presumably when they back a bunch they go for the best price/performance ratio at the time. As the years have gone you get more cyles per buck.

That site says they even had a Un*x:

There are differences between Canadian and British.
Eg: in Canada its elvator (like the US) instead of lift.
Would be better if they just published the protocol!
I see this code there:

Er, I had to tell you, buddy, but that isn't going
to hide your address from spambots.
That's no fun.
Don't tell Mad Max!

One word: SCSI scanner is multiple words!

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they find links from/to text and word processing files.
Isn't that the essense of PageRank?
find / -type f -exec grep {} THIS_THING \; -print

I wish there were some good alternatives to Paypal.
Some people mention Amazon but write it takes a larger cut.
Ideas?
I read a article about blosxom in Linux Journal recently. Sounds like a pretty sane Blogging system.
Thanks for this info. Where do you use this option?
Well, he made it.
I could mention Linus's OS.

Better than JPEGs which are often used.
Of course, PNG is the best.

Yeah, they work for Corel, Alias, Hummingbird, MKS, Cognos, Zero Knowledge, Blackberry, Nothern Telecom ...
