Not here. Most of the states are rural areas, and cell technology is just not up to par. I work tech support in a city with a population of 10,000. The next closest city is about 40miles away, so we have a lot of rural customers in the area. I positively HATE when one of those customers tries to call me from a cell phone. I can barely understand what they are saying, and half the time I just hang up. And what about bandwidth? How can we expect wireless bandwidth get good enough for data if it can't even balnket the country with decent voice?

I LIKE the bleeding edge. Thats why I'm here. Every month I'm constantly being wowed by amazing technology. I sit in anticipation of the latest release to create the feasts for the eyes the like of which many people will never witness. Should developers lessen that experience just so you can run it on your dated machine? No.

Now if you please, kindly go back to your "next generation" consoles, with your crappy resolution, and your lower poly counts and leave me to my hobby.

Think "meat plant" "roofing" "line manufacturing".
That stuff sucks ass, I even did some of it when I was a teenager. I had a job in a bacon factory where I took big slabs of back from a rack and threw it into a machine. I then pressed 2 levers on the machine to make it compress the meat. It was 30 degrees in the factory and constantly wet. The bellies weighed between 30 to 50 lbs and I had to maintin a high rate of speed because I supplied 2 production lines. There were no unscheduled breaks, if I left my position then that means 2 lines of people (around 20 or so total) would be standing around waiting on me. Now -that- job sucked. Tech support isn't roses, but it is a far cry from "The worst job.". Yes, I do tech support now. I have a frame of reference.
The people in my family are thrilled that I get paid to sit behind a computer screen and talk to people on the phone. Beats the shit out of packing meat.

No. The culture isn't going to degenerate or stagnate if you let it alone. It just gets bigger with many subcultures and groups with like interests. We are seeing this already a LOT in the states. For instance my town has an anime shop and I just think it rocks. Not everybody likes it, but for those of us who do, its great.
And thats the point, if you allow the cultures to intermix you gain and you give. This is a GOOD thing, and far preferable to trying to dictate to your populace how they can act.
The Mcdonalds thing is a good example. Would they have destroyed the Mcdonalds if there hadn't been people who liked it? No. They were combating the fear that lots of people -would- have liked it, and eat there once in awhile instead of the local eateries. Those people are being deprived of being able to eat what they want because some others in their city said "Hey, everybody around here has to act like us, it preserves our culture."
This whole combating foreign cultures thing is insidious evil.

Bringing people together is a worthy goal, and language is a huge barrier to that. That goal shouldn't be compromised just because you are afraid it will "tarnish the culture". Besides, legislating what people can say or write is an affront to your peoples liberty.

The CC has many reasons for wanting to do this, but it all comes down to the fact that the supreme's have always stomped on the draconian things they try to get passed. Be it overturning Roe VS Wade, brining prayer into public schools, or getting federal funding for private religious schools, the supreme court has always been a huge obstacle.

Regardless of if Bush sits in his office high on cocaine for 4 years or not, if he never does anything else besides those appointments, he will have had a huge impact on the nation for decades.
