We as the Linux comunity should care....the more users an OS has, the more potential for development...thus the more job for developers, the more possiblity for for competition thus leading to innovation.... if a set of standards are adopted, what distros do you think compinies will write software for, the ones where they have a map to making it work on as many deaktops as possible. now you may argue that this could also be the end of OSS development, but think of a linux halo effect, similar to that of the ipod halo. start small, work your way in and around.

what happens is Allofmp3 pays the Russian Organization for Multimedia & Digital Systems (roms the russian version of the US RIAA) for licenses of what ever music they sell. then through a legal loophole they can offer them for down load. what ROMS does with the money is after recovering any costs, they pay what ever is left to the original copyright holders. it doesnt seem like alot of money, keep in mind the exchange rate.....

tv shows are paid for by the networks that sell the advertising time. companies pay alot for prime time spots, and its those funds that the television industry would have to recoup somehow if this were to happen.

i know personally the i would never DL or pay for a show that had commericals in it. a simple PPDL (pay per down load) might solve this, but we would see a much less variety on tv. though its not like there is much anyways now.....
