well with ad block installed in firefox....i can just block all the iFrames....vua la...i see no ads and i dont care what they can collect about me...i surf through at least 2 proxies....
its just that google has had a history of doing thins a little bit different then other companies....and they are slightly ahead of the curve when it comes to apps users of all levels could possibaly use.....my mom the other day brought up their desktop search for my personal 2 terra media server. her friends son put it on his parents computer and now their family uses the crap out of it. not to mention google has the largest FREE, though slightly creppy privacy policy, Email....
typically in the american court room all you need to do is discredit the the plantiffs point, thus they have no real argument.....and you are safe under the cloud of reasonable doubt.
but that might be a bit harder in this case....
We as the Linux comunity should care....the more users an OS has, the more potential for development...thus the more job for developers, the more possiblity for for competition thus leading to innovation....
if a set of standards are adopted, what distros do you think compinies will write software for, the ones where they have a map to making it work on as many deaktops as possible. now you may argue that this could also be the end of OSS development, but think of a linux halo effect, similar to that of the ipod halo. start small, work your way in and around.

not to mention linux's complete customization....
if you dont like a flavor, or a kernal for that matter, just write one for your self....
for this to actually work for Joe "i own a dell" Enduser, it would more then likely have to have a USB interface....and frankly, USB capture cards are way system intensive and typically crap...
besides, why would any one who has have a brain just not use myth TV, or even M$ media center edition?

are you sure we dont already......with more parents giving their kids pills so they behave instead of actual discipline like they need, and the RIAA attempting to control music, while Clear Chanel takes over the radio......
im just waiting for the sun to go out so we can complete the picture....
well when you re-sell the CD you are technically not authorized to re distribute. so you wouldnt really be able to sell your itunes tracks.....but even if you were, you would most likley want to remove the DRM so people cold play them easily.
but if apple ever got stricter on the authorizations, the digital watermarking could screw it all to hell. read this....its an interview with the person behind JHymn (the program used to strip the DRM for the AAC+ files) http://osdir.com/Article3823.phtml
what happens is Allofmp3 pays the Russian Organization for Multimedia & Digital Systems (roms the russian version of the US RIAA) for licenses of what ever music they sell. then through a legal loophole they can offer them for down load. what ROMS does with the money is after recovering any costs, they pay what ever is left to the original copyright holders.
it doesnt seem like alot of money, keep in mind the exchange rate.....
tv shows are paid for by the networks that sell the advertising time. companies pay alot for prime time spots, and its those funds that the television industry would have to recoup somehow if this were to happen.
i know personally the i would never DL or pay for a show that had commericals in it. a simple PPDL (pay per down load) might solve this, but we would see a much less variety on tv. though its not like there is much anyways now.....
the problem does lie with the parents.....not doing their jobs. this all stems from the disolve of the "nuclear family". where one parent, typically the mother, would stay at home and be able to watch the kids. now that both parents working is common place here in america, who is left to raise our children....Tommy Vercetti
