Well, having used both device types, just a word of warning. iOS is a LOT more user friendly than Android. Some of the UI design decisions in Android are just so stupid. I do like a lot about android, but I really would love a device that combined ios and android best stuff -- then again most people would! Android is great if you want the ability to futz around endlessly with your device and willing to spend the time to figure out what to install etc, whereas iOS has things ready to go for most of what most people want to do. Just my $0.02 analysis on it...
I found when I upgraded from iOS3 to iOS4 on my 1st gen iPad it caused it to work sluggishly. I was considering going back to iOS3 if possible and I'm even more afraid to go to iOS5. I got the iPad at xmas and not even 6 months in I felt I'm already behind in performance.
Strange, no one I know with ipad 1 has had any issues with iOS 4.
I suggest you do a re-install and this time setup as a NEW ipad. Most people with these sort of issues with iOS find that setup as a new device (again, NOT restore from backup) takes care of the issue.
I have faith the Dev Team or someone will figure out some sort of work around. Otherwise, it has never been officially enabled anyway which is just a crazy setup. It's nonsensical to not allow people to change versions of iOS. Lots of iphone 3G people I am sure wish they could switch back to iOS v3 after finding v4 too slow. I understand security holes plugged might be part of the reason they do this, but since Apple stops supporting some of the devices (iphone 3G and iphone 1) anyway, it can't be why they don't allow downgrading...
You're full of shit. You're going to go back to the iPhone because you're having issues with tethering? Really? Your other examples are pretty generic. Please tell me what you did on iPhone that worked fine that cause network stack crashes and 'general failures all over the place' on Android. Geez fanboi..
So you got fired, that sucks. But have some professionalism. It's jokers like this which give IT a bad name and hamper it from being seen solely as a profession rather than a trade. What a jerk.
p.s. And that's the best he could do? Girly pictures during a presentation. What a loser. Probably still lives in his parent's basement.
Jump to where? Ad Block, noscript, firebug, flash block and the like have become pretty much required for my browsing needs. Who else has something like this?
Strange I thought almost all of those type of addons are available in Chrome now...
Just thinking back then there were modems to dialin, there wasn't this huge network of computers all connected. Pretty impressive (and ballsy) to figure out ways to dialin and hack into a system --- for example, finding the telephone number to even call
Now, if the Tab had come $100 cheaper and offered me something MORE than what the iPad2 does, I would be all over it. But for the same price it's just not worth it to lose the ease of use, interoperability, and application support.
Exactly. It's not enough to match the ipad, it has to be CHEAPER than the ipad to be worthwhile for normal people.
Not meant as flamebait, but I believe Android would never have gotten as popular as now if the iphone hadn't been limited to one carrier and priced higher than the android phones in the USA.
You do realize that Apple released the code for FaceTime for others to build it into their clients. And you do realize that several important pieces of the new stuff are also made available to third party developers so they can participate, too? Exactly how is releasing code for others to use locking users into a static platform?
When did Apple release FaceTime? Did this happen today, as yesterday everyone was still waiting??
Great job slashdot editors at making the summary (sarcasm). Why do you use both kilometers and miles in the summary for making the comparison? Spend 4 seconds to at least be consistent so the reader can quickly understand the scale in constant units. Here let me help:
30km is the distrance traveled, and they expected the rover to go only 0.4km
or
48.28 miles is the distance traveled, and they expected the rover to go only 0.25 miles
Exactly my experience as well. Some limited voice commands I have found useful (play song, call this person, etc) but the others are often too much broadcasting of my activities
For years I have understood that Unix systems were less prone to security threats posed by malware/viruses/hackers due to the basic security model of unix. When naysayers said Mac was less prone because of marketshare, the argument against this is the large number of Linux servers which have never been successfully targeted by any major security threat. While this malware attack is a trojan (and more social engineering), are the naysayers actually correct that Mac is not been successfully attacked because of marketshare? If so, are unix systems not inherently more secure due to their design than other OSes?
I can confirm that Netflix on the PS3 looks far better than my HD cable did.
When I want to see something with the best possible quality, I rent or buy the bluray disc.
Maybe cayenne8 has really great cable and they don't overcompress the streams in order to cram more channels in.
Wow, if your netflix looks better than your digital cable you must have had a real shit cable connection! I have both, and I can tell you my digital cable (espeecially HD now) blows away the netflix picture quality.
Oops, sorry for that. The entire the USA is covered by almost all the major carriers - Sprint, Verizon, AT&T. I said USA, not North American continent.
Not in my experience is Europe cheaper than plans in the USA anymore. A few examples.Cell phone overall costs are FAR cheaper in the USA than in Europe. We can roam the entire continent with our standard plans, Europe buy a sim card per country. USA has no cost to call a cell phone (most plans have PLENTY of minutes), Europe it's expensive to call a cell phone from a land line (~$0.25-0.50/minute when called from USA to Europe cell phones). As for unlimited internet, a friend of mine in London grabbed an "unlimited internet" sim card -- sure it was "unlimited" until he hit 500mb of data! haha crazy.
Most of the time when I see details of european cell plans, and overall costs, USA actually comes out about same or better.
but at least I know someone at Apple has personally looked at every app and its update I installed on my phone so a situation like this won't happen.
That's a "famous last words" just waiting to happen. Yes, it's arguably more unlikely. But to say it won't ever happen is just dumb.
Sure it can happen. But unlike the Google store, at least in theory, Apple actually reviews each app and supposedly does basic analysis and testing. Simple solution, Google should have an option or something in their store to have the app verified as passing some sort of bare minimum testing for safety and security. Google Android isn't so perfect it can't learn from others...
Ok, serious question here; has the intelligence level of Slashdot dropped sharply since last I came around?
You're right though, the Boxee tagging system is completely foolproof.
I installed both XBMC and Boxee on the same exact HTPC. Boxee (as early as the Alpha version) worked within 1 minute after going to settings and pointing it at my data folder the software started scraping. As for your example, I had that happen to me once with a video. Not a big deal compared to the thousands of other videos Boxee properly identified. BTW your error in Boxee scrapping was not in the suggested format of title.year so perhaps that was the problem with the identification or it wasn't the latest Boxee release?
Could I have eventually figured out how to get XBMC to work? Sure. Are there still a few quirks with Boxee? Yes! But why would I want to spend time figuring out XBMC obscure organization and interface (IMHO) as opposed to watching videos? Perhaps you want to waste time on this sort of stuff or maybe out of the box XBMC just worked for you. For me I just want to watch a video on my HTPC and not futz with a computer.
Lastly, there is really no need to insult someone who doesn't agree with you. I am just giving you my experience using XBMC. If you work on XBMC perhaps you should listen to a users real world experience rather than play blame the user.

Happy to help. I am fairly certain this will fix your problem.

Give Chrome an HONEST try for a week, you might actually like it...

The golden age of hacking was the late 1970s and 1980s. Things they pulled off back then were far more impressive and interesting to watch.
I don't believe Apple sells any hardware below cost.
