After the 30th ETA, @FIND in 10min any hope at having a nice conversation is gone. If you know the secondary channels run by the BT folks the people there are just as nice try #bt-fun or #bt-radio.

I think this goes for all irc channels if you want to be part of the channel idle for a session or two to get the flow of the channel and then start chatting. You wouldn't just go up to a crowed of people in real life and start in the middle of the conversation would you?

Is this a sign of "evil google" that some are waiting for? I mean all this optimization is directed at comerce, it does prevent spam (low paying/no paying customers) in favor of legit webmasters. At first this seems like a win-win, and it is if what you are looking for is to purchase something, but how will this optimization help me find things like how to tie a box knot, who first called statistics worse then "damn lies," or how to intigrate ln(cos(x))? Most of my searches are in search of some fact or another how will this help me?

This is more or less what the rest of the buisness comunity is saying.

A better product or a better price; not pissing of the average consumer is what needs to be done. What seems particularly odd to me about the music/movie optical media pricing sceam is that a great number of times the most popular of the products (thus the ones that are produced in the greatest abundance) are generally the most expensive. In addition the markerters are marketing music cd's (and performers) with only one or two good songs per album. This encourages people to download the two good songs as apposed to paying the ~20USD for the two good songs and the filler. Find artists that can create entire albums not just one or two good songs.
