Actually I've found it to be the opposite, its NOT people are not dealing with a PC, its that they are up to their asses in PCs and they just are insanely overpowered. I mean when your average Best Buy $300 special is a triple core desktop or dual core laptop, how many average Joes are gonna need more?

Which is why I find it kinda shitty that Worst Buy has been palming off AMD E-series laptops and desktops, this is NOT a chip that should be bought for anything but a netbook or a low power roles like a desktop downloader/file server, yet they are palming these off as "dual core laptops" and a lot of folks that don't know any better are getting burnt. For those that don't know the AMD E-Series is just a Bobcat dual core, barely better than an Atom CPU wise and while it does have a better GPU sticking this in a 15 inch laptop with DVD burner? NOT gonna be a nice experience once they get it home and try putting a little software on it, and what's worse is they are coming with Win 8 which is just a boat anchor on a weak chip like that, it makes the old Celery laptops they used to sell look good.

But as far as OpenGL...I have a feeling either the console makers or maybe Google will just fork the damned thing, lets face it that is kinda what OpenGL ES is anyway, cutting some of the cruft, so I could see them making an "OpenGL Gamer" and just leaving the original to the CAD guys.

So the point is with the huge pile o' cash Apple is sitting on this could actually turn into a positive because they could just buy one of the smaller companies, use their output exclusively for a couple years and then if the tech changes too much so it will cost a ton to get them up to current tech? just sell 'em, its not like the output of previous gen fabs aren't being used today so they could get most of their money back and fix the problem easily.

But considering this is the same company that has given us such "hits" as Zune, Kin, Zune Market (boy THAT was fucking retarded, they had with playsforsure a growing rental business that was looking like it could compete with the Apple model and just shot it in the head for a lame appstore ripoff), shoving the X360 out with a billion dollar flaw, paying insane amounts for an ad company that went nowhere and for Yahoo Search which likewise did squat, and finally the twin clusterfucks of Win 8 and WinRT? Honestly doing stupid market killing shit isn't even a surprise anymore, hell its practically their SOP.

Frankly the only thing shocking about the whole thing is that it took us this long to find out MSFT was gonna do something retarded and kill any lead they had in the market, I swear they must have run anybody with a brain out of that company for a bunch of PHBs that sit around reading The Financial Times and throw any buzzwords they see into PPTs for new products. It really shouldn't be a surprise though, it even fits perfectly into my theory that every major success with that company can be preceded with "And then the other guy did something REALLY dumb" as the reason the X360 took off was Sony hamstringing the PS4 with a $600 price that was twice what the market would bear. Now that Sony has grown a brain its time for MSFT to shoot itself in the foot once again, because God forbid they capitalize on past success instead of killing any forward momentum playing buzzword bingo.

But Apple is sitting on such a mound of capital I'm shocked they just haven't had their own fab built, not like their usage of flash chips is gonna go down at any point in the next several years barring some breakthrough in storage tech so if Apple has to scramble for chips i could easily see them either building their own or buying one of the smaller fabs for themselves. At the end of the day Apple can get bit in the ass by a sudden change in the market, no different than anybody else. I mean I'm sure Dell and the rest of the OEMs wished they had bought a year's supply of hard drives before the flood but it just didn't make sense at the time because sizes were going up and prices down, sometimes shit does just happen ya know. Hell considering how fricking loyal Apple fans are they could probably raise prices 30%+ to cover the cost of getting the flash and still make crazy profit so I'm really not seeing this actually hurting the company, if flash gets tight the ones I see it hurting are those Droid tablets that are in a race to the bottom right now.

Gotta give Jobs credit, nice thing about marketing your company as a high end brand is people expect it to be expensive so passing on the costs to the consumer really isn't as hard for them as it is a Dell or HP that have razor thin margins.
