  1. Media server on Building a Silent, Air-Cooled System · · Score: 1

Actually, this issue is important for a media server. A media server will want lots of disk storage, a fast processor, and a trick video card that probably needs a fan, too. Because a media server will likely be in the room with the video display, it needs to be as quiet as you an manage.

  4. Bad review of book? on Blink · · Score: 1

I just finished reading the book. I found it to be quite interesting and enlightening. If the reviewer thought that the author of Blink didn't go into enough detail about the research cited in the book, perhaps that's because it would have made the book too dry and much too large. I recommend reading it.

  5. Another Republican apologist - fun with numbers on U.S. Scientists Say They Are Told to Alter Finding · · Score: 1

Interesting that you would pick the number of years as 15 to describe the past. Let's pick the number 24 and see what happens. 2/3 Republican. But that's not my real worry about you. You seem to want to; Justify the Vietnam war, overthrow the constitution of the United States (free speech, freedom of assembly, etc), politicize what should be scientific research. Sounds like a Republican. Oh, by the way, anti-extremeist right wing does not equal liberal Democrat.

How about a little guy (gal) in a hard hat and overalls and boots and work gloves. Some kind of tool in one hand. Sort of reflective of the blue-collar ethic of the goals of that operating system.

  8. Don't blame Carly on HP CEO Carly Fiorina to Step Down · · Score: 1

Carly was hired by the Board of Directors. If something went wrong let's be sure we understand where the fault lies; the fault belongs with the BoD. The next question is, why does it take so long for the BoD to act? When someone can explain that, I'll be listening. If you want to blame a person, perhaps that person is Dick Hackborn. As I understand it, Carly was Dick's project. So, along with Carly, perhaps Dick Hackborn needs to resign/retire/be fired. As for why was Carly hired; She rose up with the dot.com bubble and she seemed to be a genius. It's too bad the BoD didn't wait to act until a point after the bubble had burst. At that point, Carly's 'accomplishments' wouldn't have looked so good. Too bad.

  9. Linux = communism; Windows = Fascism on Ask Microsoft's Martin Taylor About Linux vs. Windows · · Score: 0, Flamebait

I think we need to get affairs on Earth straightened out first.

  14. Sort of off-topic on Taking My Freedom With Me to China? · · Score: 1

I regard the government of China as being in a situation like Iraq and Afganistan; democracy won't work there. So, 'freedom of speech' is not a viable concept. The Chinese have to be careful about what they allow or chaos will result. Example, they were on a path to overpopulation until their government imposed some rules. I'm sure this will start a bitter debate, but I think the Chinese should not be interfered with, especially not the way we destabilized Iraq.
