I'm sorry, but Bing is utter crap. Tried it. Clicked on: english results only. What did i get: dutch results.
This is just scaremongering, nothing more.
I believe most Christmas shoppers see a PC as a PC, not as Windows Xp or Windows Vista. Only nerds care about Vista at this point. Most people would even be better of when they get Windows Xp and not Windows Vista. Maybe someone could hit the street and ask a few people some Vista-Christmas-buying-related questions. Because we nerds always seem to know what the average users wants (and I seem to be one of them).
Why do you think the installation procedure important? No one ever installs windows except when something goes totaly wrong, and even then the installation is easier because all the proprietary drivers are usually present on the restore disk.
Microsoft simply needs to add two buttons to Visual Studio.Net which say "create cluster project" and "deploy to cluster". Then it is only a small step for a lot of programmers to use Windows Cluster System.
Did anyone look at http://www.linux.org/ ?? It is a monster from the 1980's
It should look somewhat like the site of ubuntu-linux, or it should just redirect to ubuntu-linux.
Why do you think google is trying to achieve 100% uptime with their services? I certainly think the internet will be omnipresent in the near future (gprs, umts, wifi etc). Google *is* already omnipresent on the internet. If google is down your think the internet is down, right? I believe we will see the return of the thin-client with web-2.0:D
I predict that very soon community websites will have their own messengers. And if they are standards-based there really isn't a greater im divide. Choice was good for e-mail applications but only because of the standard e-mail protocol. The whole bundling thing will get old pretty quick if there is more choice.
Seven words (a holy number): try it and you will like it.
And in dutch we say: Wat de boer niet kent dat vreet hij niet. (What the farmer doesn't know he won't eat). Pretending the only thing google has going for it are te Gigabyes of storage is like saying Hotmail is only hot. Seriously: try it with your daily mail. Just forward your daily mail to gmail, set it up so nobody will even notice you're using gmail (yes you can send your mail as if it came from an other mail-account) so you can switch back without pain. Good luck!
My (now ex) girlfriend loved the random screensavers she got with (ubuntu)-linux. She switched back to Windows Xp because of the webcam support in msn-messenger...
I do not believe recreating desktop applications is the way to go. How many normal people really use drag-and-drop, and what is faster then hitting one button: Archive? Aren't folders a dying species anyway? Why try to find mail yourself through folders if you can just find them? Why use a system just because you are used to it? Why use a system where you are stuck (hotmail=no pop mail and no forwarding). Why talk about an e-mail system which doesn't exists (where's kahuna?). And 5 Mb storage for hotmail is not really catching up (i'm a non-us resident). Why try to do things yourself (like managing conversations).
Google can't posible be scared right now, and I believe they will continue to do their own thing anyway.
Would that really be so special? If that is the case, then this story is special also:
I dropped a 120 Gigabyte (IBM/Hitachi) drive on a very hard wooden floor and it didn't survive the crash. Just for fun I opened it and saw that the head wasn't in the resting position and put it back. When I tried the disk once more it worked again...
I found a sample Word document in the new Open Xml format:
<xml><![CDATA[ÐÏà±áÿ!ÿÿÿBla bla blaoutÿNormal.dotÿUnknownÿÿutÐMicrosoft Word 9.@@õÅ@õÅÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ±áÿ!ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ õÅ@ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿMicrosoft Word-document±±±MSWordDoc±±Word.Document.8ÿô9qÿÿÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿõÅ@õÅ@ÿÿ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿõÅ@õÅ@ÿÿõÅ@ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ]]></xml>
You're forgetting something. Their format is not 100% open, the format allows for binary data to be used. Have you heard of Active-x? I guess it is still posible to include that into office documents, so it's not really an open xml standard.
yes because everyone wants to use ls,mv,vi,cp,cd,mkdir,rm,pwd, cat, rmdir, more, chmod,p s,man, kill, touch, chown, grep, echo,df,ln,chgrp, date, tar, sed, awk, hostname, gzip,dd,basename, sort, login,m knod, sync, mount,ed,nice, mail, arch, tail,su,false,sl eep, umount, uname, gunzip, bash, zcat,sh,netstat etc on their phone!

They need to look exactly like Google because else people might realize it's not Google.
Yes, giving out personal information on every page you want to comment on is much better. Don't use it for important sites. It's that simple.
It would also be nice if wikipedia would activate OpenID.

Is mars.google.com going to be updated?
The google video upload functionality which is coming to Picasa might come in handy for such people...

Suddenly it hits me: GBuy!
I agree.

Why don't we just seal up our borders and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist?
Because you want to keep fucking the rest of the world I guess. You seem to like it, and we seem to give you money for it.
:D
Please digg this: http://digg.com/technology/One_login_to_control_th em_all
I hope more sites are going to use this! Very handy.
So the order should be:
:D
1) Index
2) Compress
3) Encrypt
4) Upload
Why not mark every executable from external sources as not-trusted? And when an untrusted executable is executed a dialog should be presented.

Omnipresent is a nice word, i'm loving it.
You're joke isn't that far-fetched!
