How has Paris survived this long? Aren't her 15 minutes over? I really do not see what is so interesting about a rich, dumb bitch... Does it make those of us without money happy that at least we aren't stupid? Does she appeal to the masses because she has everything she could want in life and can't handle ordinary jobs? Where does her popularity stem from? I really just don't get it... (i'm also all for her ODing... although i would prefer a funnier death... "I've always heard to not listen for a train on the traintrack, but i'm going to try it..." [hilarity ensues]

Maybe a little off topic for the slashdot crowd, but Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'Oh of Homer is a great read other than one chapter about the id and super id, which is absurdly boring. It seems to cover the same basis as the book reviewed, but in 12 seperate essays... (there are also similar books on LOTR, Seinfeld and the Matrix and many others) If you are at all interested in philosophy (anyone? anyone??) I suggest checking them out.
you know, the best advice I was ever given about worrying about size was "Once it's out, it doesn't matter"...
I know that's off topic and all, but it really is sound advice.
The only other wisdom I can pass on came from a man standing at a trough urinal in New Orleans on Mardi Gras who informed me "There's always room for jell-o"... but that's a different story.
I've waited in pain for letters of acceptance/denial from school, and I know how these people felt. I understand these peoples actions, and empathize with them.
However, lets look at this from a moral/ethical standpoint:
First, lets define Unethical as causing (potential) harm to others. This is fairly broad, and covers a large scope of actions.
Now, lets look at their actions:
They viewed their OWN status, and were informed, possibly, if they had been accepted or denied a month ahead of time.
Now, where is the harm?
They knew ahead of other people. Great, this means they can plan on going or not going to Harvard and plan accordingly, thus clearing up or closing out spaces on waiting lists for other business schools. This in turn helps other people on waiting lists, because they know their status on the waiting list sooner.
Or they do nothing with the information and wait for it in the mail.
I don't really see any harm or ethical violations. The people simply found out information ahead of time that harmed no one.
The real problem that I noticed from the study is that 4% of people have bought something advertised through spam. That's the real problem. If everyone would just ignore it, and get there *cough* all important pills elsewhere (try Mexico!) then none of us would get spam. It's a simple cost to benefit ratio, as long as enough people buy things off spam, spammers will continue to operate.
Just noticed this... there is demographic info it's just another link on the top right. (I would cut and paste it, but my office does not like having computers that work or giving us the ability to fix them or choose our own browsers, so i can't)
It's interesting, because the past data all covers the trends in other countries. Although I think that most/.ers were just looking for a data point that said "In Korea, old people search for (insert amusing object/person/place).
Also what the hell is Las Ketchup??? the 2002 zeitgeist 'google search track the Las Ketchup craze as it circle the globe'
