  1. acronyms on Geekspeak Baffles Web Users · · Score: 2, Insightful

Trying to recall what three letter abbreviations actually mean feels like having a person trying to interrupt while you are reading. The acronym interrupts my train of thought and makes understanding the rest of the information before and after the abbreviation take longer than it should.

  2. Jobs is a salesman on Steve Wozniak Honors Innovative Inventors · · Score: 0, Troll

Steve Jobs was a tag-along at the begining and is nothing more than a salesman with enough guile to steal the best ideas of his underlings and claim them as his own.

  3. Re:The lifestyle IS different! on Canada Moves to Keep Skilled Workers · · Score: 2, Insightful

Americans, alas, have distinctly moved towards regarding the world as a dog-eat-dog one, with wars and militias as standard features.

Don't make the mistake of judging all Americans by our 'elected' leader who barely won either of his two elections. A large number of Americans would've preferred otherwise.

The more recent changes to using CSS(?) have increased the delays here quite dramatically (and depressingly too if that's a word?).

  5. It figures ... on BBC Announces Adult Doctor Who Spin-Off · · Score: 1

They discontinued Dr. Who until enough people complained and then finally put it back on the air. Now it's like they've discovered their belly buttons and want to go overboard. The proposed Torchwood sounds lame to me.

  8. Re:AI on Artificial Intelligence for Computer Games · · Score: 1
On a more serious note: First of all, the AI you write for a game isn't likely to ever be used by the military.

The military already uses video gaming to train soldiers for combat and flight simulators to train pilots for aerial combat.

Second, why deny the world something just because someone might try to use it for evil purposes?

I think people should consider the long term effects of what they create or do not create.

  9. AI on Artificial Intelligence for Computer Games · · Score: 1

General Dynamics hired my uncle to make tanks that can operate on autopilot in the battlefield. I was having some success at AI but stopped working on it when I realized what it would be used for.

So basically, no one would really mind if the whole chain just upped and died. In the USA that would describe Radio Shack (Tandy Corp).

Seems late in the 'game' to notice there are websites that needed to be shut down. What were they waiting for, a few deaths?

  13. What security? on Several Critical MSIE Flaws Uncovered · · Score: 1

  14. saving their jobs on Senator Calls on NASA to Service Hubble · · Score: 1

The skillset required to build/design the space shuttles no longer exists within NASA. Those who built the space shuttles retired or died off. With no space shuttles there would be no need for NASA. They are protecting the only justification for their jobs, the shuttles. The lives of the astronauts mean little/nothing to them.
