I have to admit, I received such an email and for a few seconds I was quite concerned. I've never had one of these attempts not only pass my spam filter, but also provide my home address. I can imagine many people falling for this one. Ideally contact your family members to advise them never to click anything in such an email.
I really hope that someone with the skill and resources is creating an alternative for us all to flock to with a similarly functioning moderation system.
People like you are turning Slashdot into Digg. Calling someone a retard just because you know more than them is totally immature and offensive to many people.
Does it offer the ability to have an auto-updating word count in the status bar yet? It's absolutely essential to many people, particularly copywriters who are paid to hit a particular word count. It seems like such a trivial thing to implement and has been requested many times.
Completely agreed. And thanks for posting something constructive rather than the "omg can u imagine the apple fanboys if this was vista?" posts that usually appear on stories like this.
...when it works. Seriously, apple suck at making their laptops wake from sleep a reasonable percentage of the time. Everyone I know with a mac complains about it. When it works sure, it is quite fast. But I shouldn't have to cross my fingers and toes and clench.
I agree. Just mount a machine gun on the front of your car and have done with it. The laws here in the UK were designed to protect us. Now if you excuse me, my telescreen is calling.
Your post almost portrayed you as being quite tolerant, but you came across as being simply intolerant of anyone with a different opinion than your own. Your "blind desperate hope" comment suggests this. I happen to believe in reincarnation, but I don't force it on anyone, neither do I make condescending remarks about people who believe otherwise. Perhaps you should consider the same.
Very well said. I know a couple of people with myspace accounts and it's always a pleasure to visit them to see what they have been up to, and to view their picture galleries. Myspace is a free and simple way to achieve this, and it does it nicely. Why pay for what you can get for free.
But hey, it's Linus. On slashdot, he's automatically correct, no matter what he says. I find it difficult to understand why people regard him so highly when he cannot express his views without an outburst like this.
I agree. I can't really take the comments of someone who lives in England and clearly doesn't understand the difference between "Britain" and "England" seriously though.:)

...and a hundered different people would all say the same thing: leave it alone.
Someone create a new Slashdot, please. With blackjack and hookers and less stories about Obamacare.
I really hope that someone with the skill and resources is creating an alternative for us all to flock to with a similarly functioning moderation system.
Not in the UK, they won't. "Wanker" might be more appropriate.

Sweeping generalisation of all Mac users. You can't have a Mac story on Slashdot without ignorant posts like yours. It's such a pity.

Can't wait to see The Stig powersliding this baby around the Top Gear test track.

Pragmatism is not immaturity. Telling someone to "grow up" when you disagree with them however probably is.

I personally will be giving them a whack with my crowbar when they come near me.
You're a selfish idiot. Take a look at the statistics for motorway accidents.

I don't understand this story. Can someone give a car analogy please?
You're being modded offtopic I see, but thanks for the link. Best laugh I've had all day. :)
I am glad you used the car analogy, I cannot understand new concepts without one.
FYI, UK != Britain. So... wrong.

I wish I had mod points - spot on.
To most people they are the same thing. :)
