Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a flash-based hard drive have quite a bit (~2x) slower write and read times? Perhaps if it was built into the architecture to be 'closer' to the processer such as RAM is.

This seems like they are just trying to turn RAM into a permanent storage device.

I really don't see any advantages to this as it is. Even the prices would be higher.

This seems to be a short-term solution to a problem that needs to be solved in the long-term.

Wouldn't it be more effective to simply improve the roads on which we drive, and perhaps shoot some city planners (with non-lethal weapons of course).

I remember watching a show on discovery channel about a massive city that they are building within a city in Japan or China or something. It fixes the problem of traffic by allowing people to live where they work. A bit communist, but whatever.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that the non-lethal weapons would be loaded with lethal ammunition.

The fact of the matter is, they are reviewing devices with the primary purpose of being used as a thumb drive. If they were to include music players as well, they would have had to test dozens of other flash-based mp3 players, as they all generally can be used as thumb drives.

Perhaps you could make your comments constructive in emailing the article author to review flash-based mp3 players with the same benchmarks.

Well, you have a decent point there. Ours in Canada is about $0.30 / litre. Calculating off of what the original poster said of $0.30 / gallon in taxes ($0.40 CAD approx). That would be about $0.10 / litre. That would make the raw cost in USA about $0.50 (CAD) / litre, and ours is $0.70 / litre.

To me, that $0.20 difference is too much to ignore.
