Well shit.. Nissan should sue Ford since so many people mistake the Escape as an Xterra (which came out 1 year earlier)!

Would you really want a tablet with SQUARE corners so they poke you? A phone with square corners? Heck I have phones older than any iPhone/iPad that have rounded corners, are black, and have a black border.

I guess all the TV makers should sue each other since, if you removed the Brand Name off of them, people would easily mistake a Sony for a Samsung for an LG for a Philips, etc.

But firefox for some reason won't allow you. I haven't tried it yet myself, as I"m using a hybrid with a US (Rogers Canada) based modem since it covers the frequencies I need, but I'm curious what the 2.3.2 holds. If it's an option, you could most likely pick up a GT-i9000(x) phone and use Odin to dump the 2.3.2 Euro firmware on and roll from there.

The (x) is because there's a few variants.. mine is actually the GT-i9000T which is a latin america based version that Immix Wireless sells (front facing camera instead of a flash on the rear facing camera). There's also a 9000B in the Mexico area, straight 9000's, 9000M's, and I'm not sure which others exist.

The market has been hit and miss for some people after the update.. but according to that post if you root the phone the market works fine if it hadn't before.

Should have read the article.. err advertisement:

From the article (the very end)

"Like it or not, the Splinternet age has begun. We have a growing hardware chasm, walled gardens rising left and right, websites that become shape-shifting adapters, ISP’s that filter content, and users gather in closed, social recommendation circles. The web is much different than it was years ago, and many analysts agree that the golden age of Internet is finished.

So how does our StormDriver tie in with all that? Are we a knight in a shining armor, on a quest to defend the old ways? Or are we a part of web 3.0? It’s complicated (as usual). On one hand, we want to bring the interaction back to the common web, and break down the walled garden walls. We want you to be able to interact everywhere, not only in places where admins allow you to. On the other hand, we’re also an adaptive and robust social recommendation circle. Stormdriver will allow you to see the web as recommended by other users. It will be much easier to avoid the really bad sites and content, but on the other hand – it is a garden, even if the walls are knee-high, and you can step over them without login or password."

Now something from the *very* top of the page:

"StormDriver turns the whole Web into one huge meeting place. It is an augmented browsing web app which allows you to see other people visiting the website you're visiting. It also enables interaction on the spot.

I remember stories of back in the day with cable TV and how they wanted to do this or did this this, but it was regulated that once the cable hits your house what you do with it inside is all up to you. Same with the telephone.. that'd be like them charging you different rates if you had a cordless phone vs a corded phone, or per the number of phones and/or wall jacks within your house. It's utter crap. If you're paying a set rate for unlimited internet, or internet with a cap, how you use the data up to the cap (or unlimited) on which device(s) shouldn't matter in the least.

They also use Cat 6 and 7 cables for the distribution.. he said no fiber optic lines since the installers/mechanics tend to zip tie or otherwise fasten the stuff too tight and snap the cables.

With all of those regulations and testing they do just for a freaking video distribution system, it makes you wonder how the more critical components were designed that a WiFi signal can screw them up..

If you're saying you need to use the CLI to get access to the router to flash.. no. While some models USE to require JTAG.. they were works in progress at the time. For example the linksys routers with 4M flash instead of 8.. but they broke that and have a special version you upload, and THEN you can upload the more featured one. While it is an extra step, the point is if the manufacturers stuck it on as the default instead of their own, it would all be good. There's no reason they couldn't change the GUI interface a little bit for those who think it's "too complicated".

Heck if I gave an end user a linksys router with DD-WRT on it (just flashed).. they could just plug it in and be online. Sure the wifi name would be DD-WRT and have no WEP/WAP/etc, but it's not much different than any other router you plug in and it just works.
