Uh huh, yeah. My Dell, push two tabs and the keyboard is out. MacBook (or iBook) you're looking at about 18 screws, some models a mix of torx and philips, plus some that are just at really bad places to get to (the ones behind the metal tab that covers the ram)... and even then you have an unscrewed top case that still doesn't want to come off.

As I said in another post above, the PS2 did this as well. If you had a DSM3/4 mod chip installed, even if you inserted the Socom disc and then went to play online, the game or something would check the system and if the mod chip was enabled you couldn't sign in, it would just boot you off. You had to put the mod chip in sleep/hidden mode (which basically turned it off) to play the online games.

No reason the system couldn't do a checksum of the game or apps running or some other test to see if it was running homebrew or not even with a master key in place.

Not to mention they did this with the PS2. When you signed on with a game such as SOCOM, if a mod chip was detected, it wouldn't let you log in or boot you off the game. You'd have to put the mod chip in sleep/hidden state, and then load the game off of the disc to be able to play. I know this was true for my DSM4 chip with Toxic OS

Easy.. look at some of the mixed 2.2 and 2.3 ROMs for android. They can't do a pure 2.3 for the Samsung Galaxy S using code from the Nexus S as the front facing camera runs at a higher voltage on the Nexus S, and using that "driver" on the Galaxy S destroys the front facing camera. Also, the clock speeds and voltages can vary, and if you cross (I think the limit for the Hummingbird is) 3.1v, you could overheat the CPU and cause damage. So software can and has caused hardware to break, and if it's software that you had to break things the manufacturer had put in place to keep that from happening, that can and will void the warranty. Just like if you replace lets say you do something to your motor, swap in a motor that wasn't meant to be in there and had custom motor mounts done. Lets say a mount snaps.. that causes extra stress on the front CV/half-shaft and wheel bearing. If the car was under warranty, the dealer could absolutely say "no way" because the modifications can be shown to have caused the extra damage.

To an extent the carrier does carry some blame too (no pun intended). The phones get tested by the carrier as well before they are released, and the carrier does their little tweaks and lock downs. Not saying there's any death grip truth to the VZW version, but having known the AT&T version did have an issue, VZW should have or I'm sure did test the phones for any such issues before releasing them.

In Windows, when I hit the damn maximize button, the window MAXIMIZES; in OS X, when you hit the green + button, the window "Maximizes" to a size Apple thinks it "large enough"...

Considering most OS's out there support IPv6 (Vista, 7, Linux, Mac OS X) and most have it defaulted ON out of the box, why not add the capability? I don't know how many of the Linksys routers still run a version of linux out of the box, but it wouldn't be hard to add in, and allow the home network to run on IPv6 (or drop back to IPv4 if need be). Not that it's a huge deal, but it's not so much future proofing as it is something already in your home, on your network, just under/not utilized.

And please, please be more specific. The Galaxy S line DOES NOT lock down/disable ANYTHING. Trust me, I have one. The GT-i9000t from Immix Wireless (same version of Galaxy S found over seas and in central america). Absolutely NOTHING is/was locked down, period.

Now maybe your AT&T branded one is locked down, but that has nothing to do with the Galaxy S line. In fact, the VZW Fascinate is also not that locked down (the biggest thing with it is the BING search as default instead of Google). Even with it (which my wife purchased the day it came out) you can install apps right from websites etc without using the market.

To say it's the WHOLE LINE when in fact it must just be your phone or carrier really misleads people from the truth

Immix Wireless doesn't. They have Nation wide service, but the stores are located mainly in eastern PA and NJ IIRC, and they won't get 3g until later this year. It's a smaller provider who has their own towers in 10 PA counties or something like that.

Very true. My GT-i9000T (same phone sold in South America) I have from Immix wireless couldn't get the update via Kies because of "it's not available in the US yet". Just set Kies to another country, or edit the registry, and you have 2.2. It's also not like there isn't a huge community that's more than made up for any lack of update for the US customers. For example: http://romkitchen.org/

Now I know that voids any warranty, but if you *REALLY* want it, you always have another option. A lot of the new ROMs are actually a mix of 2.2/2.2.1 and 2.3
