i guess i can safely say, this is yet another article i was definitely not waiting for. isn't anyone else getting tired of this linuxwindowsmac bs? de gustibus et coloribus non disputandum est... let it go hippies
what a useless comment. if you're a tech geek with server experience, of course this isn't the product for you, just like you won't be using some fully automated linux installation if you've been compiling your own kernels since the age of 12.
choo choo, it's the obvious train. last stop: you.
on another note i'd probably like it. easy to set up, that's the way i want it
i dont think it's kids' attitude that's the problem, but the way a computer is perceived these days. in the commodore days, a computer was something "mystical", something new and strange. that causes people (including kids) to experiment with it.
compare that to today's situation, where computers are present everywhere, and there's much less to explore. kids see computers as gateways to the world wide web, to chat with their friends, to surf for pron, not as something "new and exciting".
yes! i strongly agree!
being an it student, i have a lot of pdf documents to "learn" from. it's trendy for schools these days to distribute courses in electronic form, though it's a pain in the ass to read/learn from a computer screen.
this would be the ultimate solution, for regular pdf documents as well as computer books. having all my addison wesley/oreilly books on a thing like this would be so convenient.
HOWEVER. what about navigation? i dont suppose it's a touchscreen, so hyperlinks in a pdf will more then likely not work (or not very easy to utilize)... that's kind of a drawback imho.
in any case, i'm certainly going to follow this product very closely. but as with anything, i dont think you can judge it before you have had hands-on experience
what a useless argument.
yeah, everybody has a spare pc laying around, just waiting for it to be used as router/fw. ever thought that people might be cheaper off getting an all-in-one solution that
is easier to use
is less bulky
consumes way less power (please, think of the global warming)
i can't really see any advantage for widescreen thinkpads... a widescreen laptop is utterly useless imo... the p models (mobile workstations) have 15" 1600x1200 screens. anything above that is a complete waste (on a MOBILE computer)
or yeah, like dell, introduce a 17" laptop with 1920x1200 resolution. might as well carry your 23" apple cinema display and mac mini around.
'the advantage of widescreen laptops' exists solely in everyone's head. the marketing machine has won (again)
who says companies WANT to use another os? heaps of big corporations still use win2k, without any problems... vista is designed for the home market, not corporate life
why do people buy new cars when their old one isnt broken? why did you buy a dvd player when your vcr still worked fine?
people want ease-of-use and gimmicks. the middle aged computer noobs and cartuning teens will be able to eat their hearts out! even MORE useless blingbling! YAY! (win2k forever 3)

so what about the majority of pirated music: the mp3s ripped from cd?

visual studio runs fine on my t43p, with uxga (1600x1200) resolution. widescreen serves no purpose other then "looking cool".

install real alternative http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternati ve.htm
it's basically a codec that allows you to play realfiles in whatever (may i suggest media player classic, found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/ , it's basically a souped up version of the ancient mplayer32. who needs all the shits'n'giggles of that mediaplayer10)
well, programming is not designing
it's all about creativity you say? what job, regarding design ANY kind of software, is NOT about creativity? :~

also, let's not forget the relative big success of the opensource software xbox media center http://www.xboxmediacenter.de/
