Which Global Warming? The one which stopped 18 Years ago? Yes, that's a well proven fact, despite all the "statistical data massaging" (aka cheating) by so called "scientists" and despite all the fear mongering of big green.
...to be spread, Jim Allchin just applied common logic.
No seriously, all previous versions of Windows needed anti-virus software and even certain addidional tools to do some basic OS tasks which Windows wasn't capable to do out of the box - so why should Vista be the gerat exception??
There were a lot of ideas to survive: Why not make a graphics card for ordinary, plain, common PCs? Imagine the geek-factor of "Hey - I have an SGI-Card inside my box!" along with a sticker on the case. Everybody would want one... Or manufacture high-end-PCs for graphic-intensive tasks (such as gaming...;) ) Maybe team up with AMD or IBM, whatever...
They missed 1001 things/opportunities/plans/ideas and are now going R.I.P. - it's a pity!
Hey - it's the other way round - all Linus wants (and is forced to) is to PROTECT the Name "Linux" from misuse. Sad that it nowadays had to be that way...
THAT Kind of - you can almost call it sabotage - is exactly what the public needs to made more aware of. As long as nobody cares, they can get away with such "errors" I hope tht case will draw attention of many non-techies.
Tath's exactly what I was thinking when I read TFA. OTOH, as an Example, Gentoo is a very good distribution. The only user-unfriendly thing is the long installation process. Maybe - as a suggestion - there should be a sort of Live-CD, which, when installed, has everything installed the average user needs, portage ready to go. "Choice" - Gentoos Credo - is very very good, but for Joe User there should be an alternative like "Install, work a while and if you whish, make choices afterwards".
Such a thing preinstalled with a simple GUI for the portage tools would be a really serious concern for that other OS-Manufacturer!
As long as an employee is doing good work, the company should not care. For example, one can be in every Toyota fan club there is and still deliver very good work in a job at chrysler. Having a specific opinion does not conflict with an emploees work, actions do. If the Guy would sell warez himself, I would agree with your opinion. But he didn't do that, he even removed his (?) web site with references to bittorrent files months ago. Comparig a private opinion - even when statet in public - with sabotage is a bit of a long shot.
In switzerland where I live, almost any employee would go to court with such a case and probably win.
Anyway, I'll read the interview tonight at home...
This is exactly the problem (out of many others) of the capitalist world. Whatever opinion one states has absolutely NOTHING to with his work. An Employee sells hist time and work power, not all of his existence. Constitutions of countries all over the world grant "free speech". So? So it's the companies that need to learn to "play the game"!
Why in the name of all gods accepts everyone (including./ crowd!) this stupid buzzword "piracy". No one uses ships, guns and sabers and no one kills other people to copy software - so it is "copyright infringment", nothing more. So please stop echoing the industries' biased and manipulative blubs!
As long as Joe Average does not care what browser (even what OS!) he uses and corporations fiddle with firewalls, proxys and virus protection around the flaws of that crappy IE - Microsoft has no reason to change anything! Why use money and bother themselves and their customers with updates or changes (and the risk of something going wrong/incompatible)? They just sit there, count their $$$ and ignore Mozilla/Firefox, at least for now...
What really bothers me most is the fact, that big corporations would love to sacrifice free speech, anonymousity an all other right granting things which happen to occour in almost every constitution of democratic countries - just for their own profit! It's really not only the american way, it might be the 21st century way of life:
1- set up a bad working buisness model which relies on supression of others 2- blame people for own decreasing/low profit 3- sue everybody 4- profit!
To summarize the (most desired) version of greedy corporate law: They want to be downloading copyrighted material more evil than murder. [?!?!?]
I live in Switzerland where things did not heat up yet, fortunately - until now. But, I will not sit around and hope - just to see my kid to live in a future "Brave New World". This sort of war isnt' over yet.

It's dead, Jim.
Because when I copy it, you still have it. Got that point?
...would be a headline which boils it down correct.
Wheter the judges order was ok in the first place is a diffrent story.

seems to be the Rule #1 of the gambling industry for its customers.

No matter what IP my ISP gives me - it always contains only 0's and 1's - in binary.
Am I special now? *putting tinfoil hat on*
Besides, shame on you slashdotters - shashing all the dots out of this poor server is just not fair!

MPAA Logic: If there is Resistance to the Broadcast Flag - we have to come up with something more subtile an more evil!
Bet?
Looks like they need some sort of "black sheep" in the committee. Or a dim candle around all these bright ones...
