I did a trademark search on uspto.gov, and it appeared to me that Cisco's iPhone trademark is listed as "LIVE", not "DEAD". IANAL, 'tis true. But we are talking about a ZDNet story, so I'm auto-skeptical.
Wow...the planets have been lining up a lot lately. I set up Ubuntu for myself two months ago on one PC, installed it on a dual-boot laptop about two weeks ago (using this one now) and on Tuesday I made my XP box into a dual-boot with Fedora. All hardware is working fine. I'm sure other folks out there in the world are having similar success.
My thoughts exactly. They had me on the edge of my seat with credit card in hand. Then they mentioned the exclusive deal with Cingular. THEN they mentioned that Cingular was now officially a part of AT&T!
I shredded my credit card.
I have had customer service problems with everything AT&T has done: long distance, cable TV, broadband internet and cell phone service. I've had a sweeping NO-AT&T policy since the year 2000. Cingular has improved dramatically since breaking from AT&T (even though I think they were partially owned by AT&T?). But they're not great with their customer service. (I mean, look at the way they abandoned former AT&T users last year slapping a $5/month service fee if they wanted to stay on the old network. Forces people to buy new phones and new plans.) So, I probably wouldn't have switched to Cingular anyway. But now that they claim the AT&T name and karma, FORGET IT. Until Apple Inc. is available on other service providers, I'll stick with my cell phone that's just a cell phone.
I watched all of "22nd Century" and "Wired Science", and the first half of "Science Investigators". I thought "22nd Century" had interesting topics, but the "hosts" were utterly condescending, biased and overtly scripted, almost to the point of being insulting. I liked the topics in "Science Investigators" too, but the "this is like, way cool, man" approach of the first male host made me gag, so I turned it off after about 15-20 minutes. "Wired Science" was the best for me. I guess the other two shows would have broader appeal to a younger set of viewers than me (40 yrs and one day), but they can vote on their own...:-)
At my last job, we used "Darik's Boot and Nuke", available at dban.sourceforge.net. You boot off the floppy, type "dod" and it wiped the drive according to Dept of Defense standards. It worked great (I hope)!
I had a 4-month-old 250gb hard drive die of heatstroke within a fanless drive enclosure. The drive had, shall we say, material of an "educational" nature. (ahem)
Anyway, I didn't want to release said material to the general public at [insert HD manufacturer here], so I abandoned any warranty recovery and just physically destroyed the drive. So much for that $100.
Exactly! They did the same thing with Windoze 95. And you could not upgrade the earlier version to the newer "b" version. (Remember "Windows 95b"?) So, if you want all the new bells and whistles, you have to purchase, AGAIN, the entire retail version. Will they do this with Vista? Knowing Microsoft's track record: yes.
> "Will early adopters need to pull in to the dealership to get the latest patches, I wonder?"
Yeah, I guess car buyers have a new criteria to consider:
"Honey, I know this car is top rated for safety and reliability, and I just love the fuzzy dice. But does it have USB 2.0 connector?"
Shades of Microsoft-Novell: I wonder if this is just a ploy to get into automobiles and then claim trademark infringement on the transparent material surrounding the passenger compartment?
The vertical ticker on the right showed 10 flaws in Firefox and 8 flaws in Thunderbird. Oddly, it didn't list Internet Explorer, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Vista, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.
Yeah, they pulled a fast one on many of us with that episode. I mean, here we are, watching one of the funniest TV shows ever, and they spring that tear-jerker, heart-warming ending on us. Gads! See...just thinking about it and I'm about to start bawling again.:'(
Densest with the mostest?
I suppose tomorrow, we'll find out that Norway has outlawed iTunes!!!

Yes, and until I read your comment, I kept right on with the wrong word. Thanks! :-)
Frankly, I prefer gedit, TextEdit.app or notepad.exe. I likes my txt to be text.
It'll probably be something like:
Notepad = $FREE
Wordpad = $FREE
Desktop icons = $FREE
Themes = $FREE
Networking = $299
Installer = $99
Start Button = $FREE
Windows Genuine Advantage = $49 (MANDATORY)

...unless it's made by Microsoft chemists.

Will this hurt Apple or Cingular? Probably not.

I guess I'll just have to install Vista. [sigh]
not!
Maybe that's why they laid me off two weeks ago. :-(

You should try using a zoom lens.
(Just kidding!)

On December 15th, I got a $250 holiday bonus. Four hour later, they laid me off. Fuckers.
I just slurmed my pants a little.
