People frequently use the word "troll" when they mean "I don't agree with what the person is saying". It is very 2019.

It's pretty much a "dog whistle" now. I put it in the same bucket as other verbal detritus like "And that's a good thing" and found myself actively tuning out and skipping over most comments/articles that lead with "those darn $GROUP_I_DISAGREE_WITH trolls".

It's junk no matter what as you can't rationally generalize all tech workers by the opt-in responses by people subscribed to this Blind app. It would be like generalizing to the general population the results of a survey by the Ann Landers column. Legitimate statistics doesn't work that way.

Good point. It would be better to a respectful period of time - say until the pain of loss has faded - to realize you therefore no longer have emotional motivation to fix the problem.

Yeah, why would we want to take a level headed approach when we can just legislate from the hip on emotional appeal. We're guaranteed to have a great democracy that way

*Ahem* Back in my day, most people met through mutual friends/acquaintances. Somebody knew somebody that was just "perfect" for you and you dated and dated until something clicked. At least that's one version.

These days, alas, if I were young single and lookin', I'd just write a Python script to automate the whole thing until I ended up finding a real live girl. I know. Romantic.
