well this bodes well for mac users. in the stevenote the gui looked to be very responsive to the hardware steve was using. (pdf renderings, user switching, etc etc) now if you're telling me that wasn't a g5 steve was using, well i can expect a decent speed improvement on my lowly g4 450.. and thats good
you can reach twice as far with two arms then you could with one arm (sometimes).. the idea with two is that you stand in the middle reaching in both directions. now granted this doesn't work in all circumstances.. the second arm, i think, would need to be used to hold yourself onto something that one couldn't reach with the one arm by itself.
a friend of mine is at wwdc and was on one of the machines, it seems to do about 1% every two minutes, at least on the version of the OS it was running
im pleased someone else remembers this game. it was the first real game i was ever hooked on.. and to this day my brother and i make references to it occasionally.. and i remember the albums we listened to while playing it for hours and hours.. mostly kraftwerk.. the perfect soundtrack for base cochese
after playing around with it, my real complaint was how there wasn't much music that i didn't have, or else didn't have anyone who i was looking for.. then i read this interview with steve which gave me something to look forward too once the indie labels get on there..
i would just take it in again after a little time passes. i've had an ibook that kept having a problem with its screen.. took it in about every 2 months, if they say its abuse you just insist it isn't. 6 times of being repaired in the past year and the thing finally works properly, and everything just about has been replaced inside. and if you've called and they acknowledge the issue at apple HQ then sooner or later to employees at the store will hear about it
the idea is that you could stack documents in a group on top of each other, so to speak. say you are working on a web page, you could select say the index.html and the images (or whatever, im assuming) and group them together in one pile.
after this, you would convieably be able to click and hold or right click, and the pile would expand to show you the documents contained in said pile. while expanded you could select which file you actually want to open.
i just downloaded and tried it (albeit briefly and pretty buzzed) but, i think i must be one of the few people who thinks this could be really incredible, it could be like a cross between the dock and sherlock. or anything else for that matter, my big complaints right now are the icons not being able to be resized, and i'd be nice to have them be able to reside in a tray that can auto-hide or something.
they kind of remind me of docklings.. on steroids (thats a joke for those who are tired of hearing that analogy).. i think this could reallly turn into a fab thing, all it takes is lightning strike of genius on somebodies noggin to figure it out.
i'm a big fan and i've been waiting to hear this for years, i know i will likely be dissapointed, but i have hope, and thats what the post apocolyptic world is all about, so i'm true to the game.
on the other hand, i remember reading in the past that they were thinking of casting someone new for the role (heath ledger i think) and that he would play max's son, i can only fear if they try to make this a new franchise by max giving birth so a son who will end up being mad as well.. none the less, this is one i will be keeping track of the news for, i think filming begins in march..
if you will recall, max's interceptor was blown to pieces in the road warrior after someone tried to get his gasoline without defusing the booby trap
could you define what "is" is? or in this case slo

Is Mac OS X Slow?

i have a g4/450 384 megs of ram, is the GUI faster then it was in 9? heck no. if i click on a folder in the dock to get a list of files in that directory then i will most certainly be greeted by the beach ball (at least it looks better in 10.2), yeah browsing seems slower. i could get more ram and it would help. none the less, how many times would i reboot os 9 a week, hmm usually once every 3 days, about a minute or minute and a half to boot up, i figure im at least breaking even, and, at least in os x i get all sorts of nifty things i didn't have in 9. yes i'd like it to respond quicker, but os x is such a joy to use i really don't mind, and once i can get a newer box, or a new processor, then all of these problems will be alleviated. all the machines ive played with at apple stores, os x is perfectly snappy.
Audion [panic.com] is a very well known player that has supported ogg for what seems ages. the argument that people wont know of a program unless apple makes it is really weak. if people want something, they look, its not hard.
then i wouldn't have gotten my hopes all up. this is just a page announcing the intention to release protools 6 by the end of the year, should update the post to reflect that, that way we wont have more jackasses like myself running around in circles telling everyone that 6 is out, then reading the article. i lost some friends today.
no it does not require a 32 mb video card, that is only required to use quartz extreme, which is hardware based rendering for the gui. yours will still use software based rendering as is used in 10.1.
(i know that is not exactly true about software based but i'm keeping it simple to avoid confusion)
before someone goes off and just redesigns their site, you really need to know just what you are trying to do. design is a form of problem solving, like designing a better chip, designing a better chair, or poster, or layout. it is not something that the average joe can do. so many people think design is just about asthetics. when really, astheticly pleasing is of course important but it shouldn't be what carries the piece, the information should, and how it is presented to the viewer.
design is so much more then most people think about, the colors, the siz of type, the font, the leading the kerning, the imagery, it is a lot of work, unfortunately almost everyone it seems fancies themself some sort of designer, unfortunately, that is is why there is so little useful stuff out there, if you can't name at least 5 designers of today as well as yesterday or don't read the design mags and such then it is probably just best to leave the job to someone else.
but then again, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and who really needs a profesionaly design personal website:)
gratefully when coming home from the bar last night i downloaded installed and lost nothing *thank the beer gods* and yep it sucks for those who lost it.. however, from what i've read, tech tool pro is the best app right now for recovering those lost files.. i'm glad i didn't lose anything last night.. but i've seen some accounts of people recovering 50 to 75 % of their lost files.. but truly a bum deal.
with this latest develpment, i can't wait to hear astronauts reporting back to houston, about "we need to vent the plasma conduits" maybe next they'll build a main deflector array, which can discharge tacheon bursts and low level graviton pulses:>
There are a few options right there, i frankly only find it troublesome to have multiple docks. but the option for such is always good.
we will just have to wait for an Ars Technica review.. notoriously in-depth

if you have a mac then you can use audio hijack with that little baby, anything that comes out your speakers you can record

i pay for the features not the number..
here is a possible example of how they will work, flash required.

you can play .mp4 files in itunes, simply drop file on itunes, ta da. you cannot however encode to mp4 from itunes, yet.

bad design goes everywhere...
:)
