  1. Re:How inclusive is the book? on GPU Gems 2 · · Score: 1

I've bought the first GPU gems, and I can tell you that the book is far from being NVIDIA-centered. Each chapter is written by experts in the field, and that means you'll get a good deal of math and physics before showing a piece of code that proves the concept. About the code used, I don't know in GPU Gems 2, but in the first one they used mostly Cg, and some writers warned about the profiles you should use to run the code. It's understandable that they use Cg, as it is their brainchild, but the language itself maps to various shader extensions nicely.

I think that the article in general is a bit too skewed. You could forgive them the fact that they don't really have a system to check double submits in the survey, or things like that, but some phrases like: "Third, and verging on dangerous over-generalization, open source software is a fast-moving and competitive market. Sharing code really can stimulate business growth." Are quite far from what the article wants to tell: what are the most popular applications in the linux environment. These are the kind of things that make linux users look like zealots, and take away credibility to these surveys. Next time these guys (or anyone who wants to do a similar survey) should stick to what the survey says.

Well, you should know that the highlight feature allows you to actually select text ;). Try it, highlight some text and then paste it in another place.

  5. Article details on 2004 Indie Games of the Year · · Score: 1

I tried to read the article (according to previous comments I read, the site changed its layout to prevent /.ing), but I couldn't... The article without graphics is plain boring. I'm into game programming, and try to be up to date, but I've never seen any of the 10 games cyrus_zuo presents me here. The remarks bring no URL where you can know more about the game being rewarded. Yes, I know I can Google names, but what's the point of a game award besides saying "This game is good, you should read about it, and buy it?" The article gives on some games a non-highlighted URL where you can download the game. I think anyway the writer tried to do something good for the community, those are my 2 cents for a better article next year, I'll try to review these games if I get a chance to spot them anywhere.
