Drifting is cool, but only IF you have a rear wheel drive car and IF it produces enough torque to pull you out of the drift. And oh yeah, it's nice if the car is balanced and has a stiff chassis so that while you're spending all that time going sideways your front wheels that control steering are still on the ground.
Most of the idiots who try to drift don't know this and think that the neato car daddy bought them is going to go sideways. But I'm all for the show if it will teach thes people that it wont.
I *think* he's thinking on a different level. He's implying that if you can't open a letter you can't even read even if you could open it, then it's just that much more secure. Your way might make more every day sense, but his way makes more "programmer" sense.
the whole purpose of consoles was to be compact forms of entertainment affordable by the markets they target
That was the original purpose of consoles, however the scene has changed now and so have the rules. The consumers have changed, as well. Today, people are going to notice if graphics are inferior. It is also pretty much given that games with inferior graphics will be over-looked by all but the most hardcore gamers (not the mainstream majority whose cash gaming companies are trying to get).
So here we are now, with Xbox 2 upcoming and they expect people to buy it because it's the next new and cool thing. And they will. There's nothing wrong with this as all, if you want to be up and current with gaming. But the hardcore or old school gamers will be content playing their dusty old PS2/2 titles, 2D fighters on the Dreamcast, even classic games in some form or fashion.
The shock here isn't that Xbox2 will be pricey. It's the face that that it will still sell here in America just like the first one did.
Although it would be nice, those type of lasers probably fall under a different category. Probably something similar to a remote control. Also, if the use of radar detection was ever ended, what means of detecting speeding would the poliece have then? Pacing? Electronic survelience devices installed on all automobiles? I, for one, gladly welcome the radar gun.
Wait a min. Wait wait wait. Did you just say shoot down a plane with a rifle? An UZI? LOL You're probably better off odds-wise in hijacking another plane and shooting down the target plane with it!

TFA is kinda neat, includeing some geeky fun that encourages real-world social activities. It mentions "safe" war-driving, as in always having a passenger who operates the laptop for the driver. A lil too geeky for me, but still a lot more fun than configuring a wi-fi setup.
While it's nice to see that the world is finally embracing gaming, I think that they're doing it for the wrong reasons. A knight-ship for a game designer. Gimme a break. We're just beginning to tip the ice berg of gaming, so let's hold back the prestigous titles until someone comes a long that really puts his mark on gaming as a whole, and touches the WORLD. Gaming hasn't done this yet, IMO. Yes, it's big and gettting even bigger around the world, but there really hasn't been much of a test yet to see if video game media can provide change enough to impact the world like theatre, art, music and film has. And all this is aside from the likelyhood that the people handing out these prestigous awards have probably never even played these games themselves. In short, it's not time for this yet.
There is another slightly smaller comet inside...

I totally agree. Can you say "example?"
It's probably safe to say that it ain't red.

Oh, come on. Why the down mod? This is funny in an otherwise dead thread.
