Note that there are advantages to being a member of the untouchable castes in india today due to the government policy of reservation of govnt jobs. So much so that many non dalit youths resorted to self immolation in protest against the mandal commission report. Basically being untouchable is looked at by many as a free meal ticket and there used to be a rampant industry of fake caste certificates especially in bihar.

What I suppose is that the humans are the computer that is running the matrix. Somehow the whole "program" runs in a mechano-biological computer composed of joining millions of human minds together. As such some of the purely software agents are nothing but figments of imagination and have no independant existence. So the machines use the humans not as a cheap source of power but as a cheap source of computing. That would make greate sense to me cause for the energy we expend we sure have a large memory capacity.

Rubbish. MS Operating systems cost RS.6000 to Rs.10000 Which is more than the monthly starting salary of a software engineer. To many indians it is more than their total annual income. I don't see any tailoring in India at all.

Where patchy power mains, brownouts etc can easily blow holes in your memory chips. I have 16 mb lying at home full of bad bits... I'm sure there are many others who have experienced the bad effects of a power surge. Sadly these chips blew out even though the computer was on a UPS. Memory is not cheap for people of limited resources and this is one great way of recycling something the developed world really doesn't bother about too much.In India at least we hate to throw anything away and this is one more major plus point for linux Cheerio Robin

The interesting thing is that americans "surrounded by electronic gadgets have at least as hard a time (if not harder) wrestling with computers , firstly because there is much fiercer competition in schools etc. witness the number of asian software engineers migrating to the USA in droves.
