  1. Re:You You You on Interview with SWG Producer Grant McDaniel · · Score: 1

This is the exact attitude I am talking about, (and yes I was about 90% to unlock when the NGE hit) just because they fell slighted doesn't mean they are justified in trying to spoil everyones fun. Really it is SOE and LA's fault... they created an alpha class and made it "hard" to acheve and imposible to balance. At this point I think Star Wars (in a marketable form) can't be an MMO because the simple truth is that everyone (or nearly) wants to be a Jedi, Star Wars is about Jedi and Jedi have abilities greater that average people. Well I found my solution to the problem (quiting), honestly I feel sorry for those who can't move on.

I played through the NGE also.

I quit, not because of the game changing (it was kinda fun if you gave it a chance) I quit because of all the bitching from my fellow players. In the end it became impossible to have a fun play session without having to deal with mass protests or hate-spam in the local channel (why these people didn't just quit I don't know).

The other thing that got to me was the so called "Elder Jedi" who made it there "job" to abuse anyone who respeced into or started a new jedi because they didn't earn it. I think the "alpha" class is a big part of what lead to the downfall of SWG.

That's interesting, it could be argued that EQ was the first big MMO to expand the market, perhaps this is an indication of a trend in the market. It's funny, there is evidence that the market is reaching a saturation point as we speak. Having said that if WoW players suddenly start an exodus (due to say a disapointing expansion) there will be quite a few gamers relativly new to MMOs and looking for there next fix. If I had to guess I would say that many of these new MMO teams are trying to be done in time to catch some of Blizzards cast offs (if my friends are any indication I would wager that quite a few WoW players are geting the itch to try something new).

It's a smart move on the part of these developers even if the game hasd no staying power, even "unsucessful" MMOs are extremely profitable in the short term and involve almost no loss when they shut down.
