... and I quote: "Children are playing a game that encourages them to have sex with prostitutes and then murder them.
This is a silent epidemic of media desensitisation that teaches kids it's OK to diss people because they are a woman, they're a different color or they're from a different place."
Clearly we should ban them all (sarcasm). Despite the fact that the article mentions movies, they clearly blame video games more. I just am at a loss to understand this.
I see what you mean. I was referring to how you are in the cockpit in Privateer, whereas in EV you are above the ship and "space" is a 2-dimensional plane.
Not really, having played all the Escape Velocities and the original Privateer, this remake should look nothing like EV. EV is two dimensional top down, whereas in Privateer (original at least), you sit in the cockpit of your ship and fly with a joystick in a full 3D environment. The screenshots of the remake seem to be 3D like the first one.
It also says that this new console will be so "revolutionary" that it may pull in more third party support.
I read this as: our new system will be fundamentally different than other systems coming to the market. You won't be able to make a game for the other systems and easily port it to Revolution.
Yes I did RTFA, and as you correctly pointed out, it only says what they did. I wanted to know what you could do with it? In other words: what products will I see that take advantage of this accomplishment. You pointed some out, so thanks.
Also thanks for insulting me, that was clearly quite necessary in explaining the applications of this research.
Oh I do too as a holder of a degree in Physics this is the stuff I find fascinating. I didn't mean to imply it was not good work, but alas, I am an engineer now and must find a practical use for everything.
I did some searching, but couldn't find any meaningful applications for this. I am not saying science for the sake of science is not meaningful, but I was just curious what we could use this for. If anyone can enlighten me I would be much obliged.
That this will lead to optical computing, but after reading the BBC article its clear that they have it in mind to use this for optical switches in the telecomunications industry. If someone smart could come up with a silicon based optical NAND gate, we would all be happy campers.
They are just saving you the pain of sitting around waiting for a free spot in your server to open. Welcome to the World of Waitcraft, I mean Warcraft.
I agree completely. As you correctly pointed out I was trying to express the need for good leadership, i.e. figure out how to make the problem appealing to geeks.
Imagine a tech company staffed by brilliant geeks who are working their asses off to solve customers' problems. It would be wonderful, except the nature of brilliant geeks is not to solve other peoples' problems, but to work on things that interest them.
I think you have missed the boat slightly. They key is to make sure customers problems are the things that interest brilliant geeks. Take for example a dirty floor (a problem many people suffer), the brilliant geeks at iRobot came up with a way to clean it. I am willing to bet working on the Roomba is a lot more fun than working on a normal vacuum (Dyson excluded).
Let's think about this, Communist Russia and China can/could barely feed themselves. Yet the US feeds itself plus hundreds of millions more people. Yeah, capitalism definetly causes world hunger (I like sarcasm).
I have a Tagan TG480 and it is awesome. It is rock solid and dead silent (I can't hear it unless I take the side of the case off). It really is deserving of the editor's choice award. Coincidentally, Tagan is German and this review site seems to be British, so I don't suspect any monkey business.
This may not be a totally fair comparison, but I ask you: Since 1984 do you have cheaper phone service?
Yes! It's a hell-of-a-lot cheaper.
Is it higher quality?
Not sure.
Do your phone company service reps speak English as a first language?
Mine do.
Are there more choices?
Yes!
Can you subscribe to "naked DSL" and not subscribe to phone service and/or cable?
Yes! Speakeasy.
Any time some conservative or religious nutcase
Oh wait! This just in, there are liberal nutcases too: Hillary Clinton bashes GTA

Amazing he still acts so well at the ripe old age of 74. I couldn't believe that either when I looked him up on IMDB.
He followed a movie-like script too!
Also a book-like script!

Or you could just right-click
Therein lies the rub for a one button mouse...

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
What happened to my period (and comma). Thought I had one, should be written like this:
Oh I do too. As a holder of a degree in Physics, this is the stuff I find fascinating.
I agree that is an akward sentence either way.
If you can't find a practical use that's your problem. Move over and let someone else more imaginative come up with something.
Then enlighten me...

probably also support personal responsibility.
Trust me.. the ACLU would be tinkled pink if this were the case. however its not.
Studies have shown that gun owners advocation for personal responsibility stops with the guns.
Please cite some sources, I honestly don't buy that.
Also I am unsure of the ACLU's concern with this. The ACLU is pro Bill of Rights and therefore "pro-gun", or phrased differently pro 2nd amendment.

So, you're saying if someone completely ignorant came up with a workable solution, what, we'd have to discard it or something?
yes

World hunger is caused by capitalism... HAHAHAHA
Let's think about this, Communist Russia and China can/could barely feed themselves. Yet the US feeds itself plus hundreds of millions more people. Yeah, capitalism definetly causes world hunger (I like sarcasm).
GM weads that kill themselves.

Yet you still got modded insightful... Your ignorance must be brilliance in diguise
Overhyped != Bad
I was just lamenting that it was more of the same.
