I completely agree, I almost bought the M170 but I saw this Toshiba P105-S921 gaming laptop that beat the crap out of it for the price. I decided to wait for the new M1710, but after comparing the two, I dont think $800.00 more for a simmilar outfit from Dell is worth the flashy case and the higher resolution display. The Dell has more powerful models for those who have the dough to spend, but I just want the most performance for the dollar. I have never owned a Toshiba, hopefully I'll be happy with it.
Man, You really need to lay off the Caffeine. The Phone call to Grandma from a prankster was just an example... If you werent so dumb you might be able to see the possibility for bomb threats, terrorist activities or calls from serial killers. I'm not talking about waiving rights that we already lost with the patriot act, but giving tools to law enforcement that can allow them to track communications over phone lines when there is just cause. Also, I did'nt suffer any harm from my fraud experience, just some minor irritation. The reason I contacted the companies involved, including Skype, was to alert them to the problem, have them cancel all services purchased with my card and to prevent others from being victimized.
the computer manufacturer had their admin call me about my problem and just a couple of days later they shut down their web sales for a couple of weeks, so I assume they found something, or I wasnt the only one. I'll tell you what, you keep your "soul and your ball" Just post your name and credit info, so I can start using VOIP to promote fraud, crank calls, and general havoc, then you can E-mail the VOIP companies, and try to say,"its not me!" Anyway, dont respond, Ive spent enough time talking to an idiot.
Really? You dont hink some type of regulation is necessary to maintain standards in this tech, or that VOIP providers have some obligation to provide safe service and keep it from criminal uses? How would you propose to keep VOIP providers from providing unsecure services. Lets make a hypothetical situation, A teen uses someone elses credit card to purchase minutes on a Skype account, they call someone, your neighbor, Grandmother, etc. Next thing, they tell Mrs. Cunningham, "I'm sory, but this is Officer Nobody, and your Husband, Son, Daughter, whatever, was involved in a fatal car crash." the victim calls the police when their loved on walks in the door to report the crime that has taken place, but the calls cant be traced due to a proxie and Skype being in Amsterdam. How would you resolve this problem, or do I not understand how Skype works?
I think we need to have some type of regulation for VOIP. I use Vonage and the service and quality are outstanding, but I recently had a enlightening experience with Skype.
Over the Christmas holiday I purchased some accessories from Shuttle PC on line. Unknown to me the Shuttle site had been compromised and the next day thousands of dollars in web severs and Skype VOIP accounts were charged to my credit card. I contacted Shuttle PC, and the companies renting the web servers, both of which were very concerned and helpful. The only way I could contact Skype was by email, because they have no contact number to reach them. After three unsuccessful attempts with email Skype finally informed me that they couldnt do anything and to be sure and cancel my credit card.
I started checking on Skype to see why criminals had charged Skype accounts on my credit card. I found out that VOIP either cannot be tapped, or is extremely difficult and the U.S. Government is requesting provisions be put in VOIP for them to listen in. Also Skype Doesnt use any type of I.D. verification for customers. Anyone with a bogus email and a stolen credit card can open an account. With no way to be recorded or traced over VOIP I believe the criminals are using Skype to buy web servers for bogus web sites and middle-man attacks. Skype is provided by the same people who made Kazaa, they neither know, nor do they care, who uses their VOIP, and their customer service is nonexistent. Without some form of regulation, or standards regarding security, the criminals will continue to find VOIP very attractive.
The Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 doesnt work! Darn! I guess I looked at the wrong websites. http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/tiki-pvrhwdb.php The hardware database that I saw showed most people using MythTv and FreeVo were using the 250. I tried it on my Mandrake box and had to give up untill I can spare more time on it. Thats not the only problem either, MySql is'nt a cakewalk, you can find all the RPMs from Mandrake but they dont work right from the install and the tutorials are badly written and hard to find. http://www.byopvr.com/Sections+index-req-viewartic le-artid-13-page-1.html
Truthfully I dont think MythTv is a threat to the TV industry. I'm no Linux guru, but I'm not a complete n00b either. When I can install it without trouble, thats when the entertainment industry should be concerned.
You havent ever looked at the dictionary... Atheist means without theism. No religious belief, it aplies to all religions. Agnostic means you dont have an opion on any belief for or against.
Agnostic, Humanist? Bullcrap! More people should be less politically correct and tell the truth! I used to label myself agnostic, humanist, just gave the bible thumpin idiots more chance to feel good about themselves. Now I am a straight athiest and I dont have a problem telling all the intellectually impaired, Jesus freakin, tongue mumbling, jack asses to STFU! More people should tell them they are full or S**T!
Freedom, democracy, nothing more than Michavellian words used to control the populace. You have never been free, the only true freedom is freedom from fear. The invisible people of America could teach you about the price of what you call fredom. Just go to your nearest overpass with a blanket and a bottle to keep you warm. Sit and watch all the "free" people who live there. Park at the end of a street and watch all the children scurry like rats from the schoolbus, because sexoffenders live in their neighborhoods. Walk up to a strange woman at night and watch them clutch their handbag because they fear you. Yeah, we are really free...
Awesome way to put it! The Telephon/cellular/cable networks have been screwing us for years, about time we all got something for nothing, or at least cheap!
Animals have no rights, not even the great apes. The arrogance of our species refuses to believe animals are here for anything other than our amusement. Animals have souls, they think, love and feel, but at different levels acording to their mental capacity. I would like to see ethical research on Chimeras but also ensure the higher animals are treated with respect for their lives and feelings. One only has to walk into a factory farm to know we are'nt treating our animals properly. As long as animals are treated with dignity and respect I dont have a problem with Chimera research, I'd love to see everyone with hearing like a dog, strenght of a gorilla and hung like a horse!
There is no reason for you being here, there is no " after life ", no one will ever know why the universe is here, you are as insignificant as one grain of sand on all the worlds beaches, but hey! if you cant handle that, GOD! WOW! that feels better!
That was verry well stated, but christiandom is not in decline.
Here in Texas, new churches are being built on every corner with tax money meant for the homeless, Sen. Jeff Wentworth tried to pass a law requiring one minute of silent prayer by every student in public school. The senator couldnt pass the law as prayer so he renamed it "silent reflection" Now all public schools in Texas must observe the US Pledge, the State Pledge, their individual school Pledge, and the minute of silent reflection.
Homless wretches panhandle on every corner, churches are building huge congregations and houses to shelter them, prostletizing witnesses are sending children door to door instead of being in school. What I would like to know is, what is so important for any child between the ages of five and ten to "reflect silently" about for one minute .
Christiandom is on the increase, ignorance, superstition, and racism continue to impede the social development of comunities here in the south. Throughout history, whenever things were at their worst, religion latched onto comunities like a blood sucking leach, America is no different today.
You are so correct! I live and work here in the south, and all the catholic schools teach evolution. Its the dumb born again highschool dropouts that are home schooling their kids creating the problems...
Not wanting to flame anyone here, but we are seeing too much of this. I believe recently I have read, within the last three years the US has droped from 18th to 23rd in math and science among developed nations. We have consistently been at the lower end of the rankings for quite some time, also, science is based on theory. Scientific theory is the basis for all of our observations, it states that through controlled observation insights into the working of nature can be discovered and used to postulate a reasonable outcome. Atomic theory is just a theory, yet we have nuclear power and atomic bombs, electro-magnetic theory gives us lights and all these great stories on slashdot. The religious right wing cant compromise on their belief in the literal interpretation of their faith and attack anything considered to be a threat. Many other developed nations have religious beliefs yet do not have the conflict between church and state that we endure here in America. The reason Other countries dont have this problem is because they recognize evolution is a tool that very acurately predicts how a series of observations will result in a reasonably predictable outcome. Evolution does not disprove the existence of God or creationism but is a useful tool for scientists. Evolution is very useful when dealing with oil and mineral deposits, geology, and anthropology. People have a hard time understanding how a cell could evolve, but thats because they cant comprehend the magnitude of geologic time.
Some have implied that Tech Tv was just for geeks and most of the viewing public couldnt find it interesting. Well, I am one of those few who owe Tech TV quite a lot. I was completely computer impaired, but thanks to all those people on Call for Help and TSS, I was able to build my own computer. I could not have developed the interest without those shows. In the three years since I started watching Tech TV I not only built that first computer, but have hacked Xboxes, PS2s, built a dozen PCs, learned Windows, got an A+, Network+, set up a wireless hotspot in my neighborhood, and bult simple FTP and Web sites. I am now a regular at my local LUG "Linux users group" and will be continuing my education.
I miss my Tech TV...
