"Column-oriented databases -- such as the one built by Stonebraker's latest start-up, Andover, Mass.-based Vertica Systems Inc. -- store data vertically in table columns rather than in successive rows. "
1. Good raid-quality gear takes time to obtain. 2. Good raid-quality gear *should* be better than easily obtainable gear you can get while soloing 3. The time it takes to get good raid-quality gear is the price to pay for having better stuff
This is not unique to WoW. Every MMORPG since the dawn of time has worked on a similar philosophy.
I met my future wife online in 1985. We both ran local BBSs, spent long hours chatting and a relationship quickly developed.
We were married online in Dec. 1990. The pastor and both of us called a multi-line BBS and had several friend join as witnesses. The service was done and we were married. Later that night, we have a service IRL just to placate the family and all, but we all signed a document and had it notarized stating that our official wedding took place online.
Evidently someone saved a transcript for posterity's sake and it surfaced on the web a few years ago:
This is completely offtopic, but when will WoW and others sue the crap out of IGE.com?
IGE is a company who sells virtual equipment and accounts for popular MMORPGS. Isn't that against TOS for most of these games?
How long will they stand for it?
This is par for the course with North Korea.
1. Make ridiculous, aggressive statements in the media.
2. Pull out of talks.
3. Demand concessions.
4. Get concessions.
5. Restart talks.
6. Repeat.
yawn.
nothing to see here.
If possible, make large purchases on a Visa Platinum card. Not many people know this, but Visa automatically doubles the manufacturer's warranty if the purchase is made with a Platinum card.
I bought a laptop in Dec 01 and it died in Jan 03, a month after the manufacturer's warranty expired. After a few emails, phone calls and faxes with Visa, they replaced the laptop with a brand new one, no cost to me.
This may not help you this go-round, but it's something to keep in mind for next time.

Marketing hype for his startup.

As I understand it, any Visa card has this feature. As long as the card is a Visa, you should be protected.

note to self... stop drinking rocket fuel.
Somebody forgot to push the "turbo" button on the front of the server case....
...be arsed, as it were.
