I've always maintained that the (legal) porn industry could be put out of business very easily simply by having governments refuse to protect the pornographer's copyrights. Making all previously produced child pron easily available for free should in theory remove the profit motive to produce more, and therefore protect further minors from exploitation. However, I'm afraid most of the people in this "business" aren't in it for the money. I also don't see any compelling societal interest in blocking the production or distribution of virtual child porn that doesn't involve any actual minors in its production. Some theorize that allowing people to view certain kinds of fantasies make them more likely to indulge in those fantasies in real life, but I've seen no scientific evidence that this is true. I play MMORPGs, but I feel no compulsion whatsoever to go around killing ogres in real life!
I thought he was just going to dance around and shout "developers!" over and over again... let's just make sure all the chairs are bolted to the floor first!
That $75 price point strikes me as blatant bullshit. I suspect they could sell one of these to you or me for $150 to $200, which would still be a useful price point.
I gave a cheap netbook to my sister-in-law for her to web surf. She had problems with accidentally disabling the WiFi chip, and eventually dropped the netbook and broke the case. Hopefully these devices will be a lot more idiot-proof than netbooks.
Obviously you've never been rich. The way to get rich is to gamble with other people's money, and if you win, keep the profits, but if you lose, get somebody else to pay the losses. The history of the very rich is full of examples of this, e.g. the Hunt brothers. It used to be fashionable to leave the banks holding the bag when you gambled and lost; your corporation simply declared bankruptcy leaving you with no personal liability. Lately it seems to have become fashionable to leave the government holding the bag when you gamble and lose. BP/TransOcean/Haliburton gambled and lost. Yes, by Libertarian free market principles, they should have to absorb the complete costs of cleaning up this mess that they have made -- even if it drives all three into bankruptcy. Ideally they should go after the personal fortunes of the decision makers as well.
The effects of the spill will suck, and will suck for a long time (the halibut still have not returned to the area around the Exxon Valdez spill). How will knowing in advance just how badly it will suck help? Are they going to take some remediation efforts as a result of this simulation that they wouldn't have otherwise? They claim they are already doing everything they can... how can we expect them to do even more?
I won't touch the iPad until it has a USB interface. Sometimes being able to add flash memory or a real keyboard is a good thing...
The problem with adapting Windows 7 is that apps designed for WIMP need to be completely redesigned for a tablet anyway, so keeping a common GUI API buys you nothing. Tablets don't support right click, scroll wheels, shortcut keys, tool tips... e.g. many of the UI conventions that PC software designers take for granted. Mac software is a little easier to port because it assumes only a 1-button mouse, but it is still a different paradigm; a touch screen is like using a mouse where the computer has no idea where the mouse is unless the button is pushed! Most games also suck on a tablet, simply because most games are designed to need more than a single button for input.
What additional information? The car already knows that it is stopped. The only additional information it needs is to know how long it is going to be stopped for. For a railroad crossing, that's pretty much an unknown. For a stoplight, the period of time probably isn't worth turning off the engine in the first place, but the information still might be useful in determining whether or not to shut the engine off.
It is somewhat of a consolation in a perverse way to find out what most former bullies do now that we're all adults. You mean they're not all working as cops and teachers?
the G1 should be able to run the new versions The Nexus One has a lot more memory than a G1; so some Kluges are required to run Android 2.1 or 2.2 on a G1. Yes, I like the G1 hardware keyboard too; I'm disappointed I can't get a phone with all the Nexus One or HTC Incredible specs, but still with a hardware keyboard. Yeah, I'm also disappointed my G1 is still running 1.6.

Just give the Pandas some internet connections and let them surf panda porn all day... it works for slashdot readers, doesn't it?
Larrabee was canceled "as a standalone discrete graphics product" on December 4, 2009.
Does anybody know where the Larrabee development was actually done? I'd be embarrassed if it was done at Intel here in Oregon.

If Django is so great, why isn't slashdot implemented in Django?

I've got news for you... that "one woman" was a man too! But if you were playing "Strip Dungeons and Dragons", you'd already know that!
By the way... what exactly is the right kind of sausage party?
Never use your real name!
(oYo)
See? Much better! (Yes, filth is in the eye of the beholder.)
How long has it been since Tim Winter last got laid? I wouldn't be surprised if he has no children of his own...
and change the name of the show to Crap My Dad Says instead. That'll show 'em!

Wasted paper? Hey, the paper targets attacked you -- it was clearly a case of self defense!
Wouldn't a history of antisocial gaming be more appropriate for slashdot?

They would have do ban the sale of douches to eliminate competition for the officials.

It even supports 2 player play; press "Insert coin" and it adds a Ms. PacMan.
If you want to know what it's like to be on the other side of that conversation, ask a citizen of the British Empire to explain cricket to you.
Do they also have a "Nevada Paid Fun-time Companion Commission"?
(P.S. "Commission" has 2 m's)
