Given the law of cause and effect, any creation story requires an event without a cause at some point. The alternative is a huge loop that creates itself. Evolution is not that bad a concept, given 3 billion years, a lot can happen. Also, one sexual reproduction evolves, there IS some intelligence -- animals get to choose their mates, and they would quickly evolve the ability to choose mates that give their offspring the best chance of survival (that's why we all want to sleep with supermodels, it gives our children the best chances for... oh wait.) Back to "someone made us"... who made that someone? EVERY theory suffers from the violation of causality issue, including creationism!

Bernie supporters don't "hate" Hillary, we just think Bernie is a better choice. I voted for Bernie in our state caucus (Hillary and Bernie supporters got along very well there, thank you), now I will vote for Hillary in the general election because I have accepted the inevitable -- barring a death before November 8th, it is going to be Clinton vs. Trump in the general election and Clinton is going to win. The only surprise now will be who they choose as running mates. And the real payoff will be when Democrats regain the majority in the Senate, and Hillary submits her far-left nominee for the SCOTUS. I'd just love to see the look on McConnell's face when that happens!

  10. No commercials during the movie, just bear in mind that the actual movie starts 20 minutes after the published start time, as they invariably run 20 minutes of previews first. Even the ticket sellers accept this as normal; show up 15 minutes after the movie has started, and they will tell you, "You haven't missed anything, still showing the previews" The ads only run before the scheduled start time; no reason for you to be in the theater then. Basically, it's a scan wherein the theater get paid to show commercials to empty seats.

  12. Air conditioning. Made possible the industrialization of the south, and the popularity of Arizona for retirees, so basically A/C has triggered mass migrations of people to hotter climates, with an accompanying huge energy cost. Also made possible modern architecture, which is basically huge glass greenhouses with no opening windows -- try working in something like that without A/C!!!

The reason the rich send their kids to Harvard and Stanford is not that they receive a better education there, but rather that they make contacts with the kids of other rich families that they have a good chance of getting hired by or starting a company with. So I agree, a lot of being successful is WHO you know, not WHAT you know, and that cannot be taught. On the bright side, I've seen some very talented lawyers and other professionals mentoring poor minority kids, and that assistance may be more valuable than going to an Ivy League school.
