If being able to sit on your ass all day leads to creating great new products, then why don't we see millions of new products coming from retired people?
How about cases where people under the age of 18 have been arrested for sending other people pictures of themselves? Yep, that's considered "distributing child porn" when a 17-year old girl texts a topless picture of herself to anyone!
We now have the technology to create photorealistic animation using CGI, e.g. the new Jungle Book movie. So, if I create a video of someone naked that looks 12 but is actually completely computer generated... is is still illegal porn? Where should we draw the line?
My dad's coworker that I stayed with when I was in highschool had skin mags with pictures of naked 14-year old girls in them ("meses von 14" or something like that). Yeah, he was a perv, but apparently there is a market for younger than 17. I don't see the appeal of prepubescent kids myself, but there would be no supply if there was no demand.
Elon Musk understands the money is in becoming the Intel of batteries, not in making electric cars. He would be more than willing to sell Tesla, as long as the buyer commits to buying batteries from his Gigafactory. Musk's actions make it obvious he is not in this for short term profit.
In this case neither rehabilitation nor revenge is the objective. The objective is to simply keep this batshit insane sociopath from harming anyone else. Put him in the general population with lots of other murderers, and look the other way. You want to bitch about being in solitary? Fine, we'll give everyone access to you!
The human rights violation was that they kept him isolated and alone... which is probably why he's still alive. Logical reaction is to put him out in the general population and look the other way. I'm sure there are plenty of good Norwegians that would just love the opportunity to take him out.
I have a brother in law that prays to Mecca 5 times a day... and drinks alcohol. His wife claims to be a Muslim and eats pork. Saying "Muslims don't drink alchohol" is a bit like saying "Mormons never have sex outside of marriage" or "Catholics never use birth control", isn't it?
ISIS was the name of a payment processing system that just recently changed it's name as well as the name of a goddess, so I don't think there is ANY rational reason to penalize people for using just those 4 letters. Now, if he said "Daesh beer fund", on the other hand, I could see it. By the way, you know when ISIS refers to themselves, they use Arabic, not the English language acronym, right?
Most of Europe takes a month off every year, either August or September. One of the reasons why Americans are more productive, but I suspect the tradition started when it was too fucking hot to work during those months. Now they have air conditioning.
And bicycles... fucking bicycles everywhere, with bike paths everywhere. And decent public transportation you can take your bike on... actually, Amsterdam is the city Portland Oregon aspires to be one day when it grows up.
The Moller Skycar kept the scam going for 30 years. The irony is that it is now _technically_ possible to build a working skycar, but the licensing and liability issues make it economically infeasible -- just like this foot-strapped jetpack. It looks fake, as in it doesn't appear to produce near enough thrust to counter the 200 pounds of weight. Interesting question, whether a computer feedback loop could divert thrust fast enough to balance the pilot flailing around; I suspect the computer could handle it, but not the mechanical components. You can't really instantly change the amount of thrust coming out of a jet.
Disney ran out of other people's intellectual property to rip off, so now they're ripping off their own? This movie will run into all the same traps that all movies which anthropmorphicize wild animals run into. My favorite is Zootopia: what exactly do all the carnivores eat, when ALL animals have evolved into hominids?
Most animals aren't as visual as we are. For example, a dog's concept of "doggyness" comes from other dog's anal glands, if animals don't have that scent, they are considered non-dogs.
Big difference: Libraries are limited to lending one physical copy at a time, making the waiting list for popular material quite long. The internet can immediately make available a virtually infinite number of copies. Many libraries now offer electronic books, but I assume they keep it locked to a single reader at a time.
The publisher is free to choose any snippets they want and publish them on their website, which will then be indexed by Google. Habeas corpus applies here, who is harmed by Google's indexes?

You can hide child porn images inside cat pictures... why don't we start doing that and start getting those damn cat lovers arrested for kitty porn?

Frickin' Norwegians, always screwing up the curve for the rest of us!
Internet of Turds?
... and yet I'm still getting calls to recruit me for contractor positions at Intel in Hillsboro... strange.
Nope, the opposite is true: the more we make fun of terrorist groups, the less likely alienated Muslim youths are to run off to Syria to join them!
So, if you see your friend Jack at the airport, don't suddenly shout out, "Hi, Jack!"

Hmm... when are AAA towtrucks all going to come with charging stations?
For you Americans out there, a "caravan" is what you call a trailer -- you know, those tiny houses on wheels that rednecks live in year-round.

For those of you that didn't catch it, "Oscorp" is a Green Goblin reference. (Captain Obvious, at your service!)
