Am I mistaken, but I thought that the IQ was supposed to be an intrinsic quality of a person (barring accidents involving mental incapacitation.) That is, if you have a robust enough test to test a child accurately you will determine what intellectual capacity the adult will have.
Anyone else think, like 99% of the "IQ test results prove that..." it is MOST likely (Occam's razor anyone?) an artifact of the test(s) used (and incompatibilities between scoring sytems). That is, the test is inherently flawed and doesn't correspond to the classical (vague) definition of IQ anyway... Like comparing meters to feet... or meters to imperial gallons...
Then you can do fun things like construct a phase diagram from your data and find out little factoids like 'if the population density rises above X, dictatorships become fundamentally unstable!' that let the more power hungry analysts set up a perpetual dynasty with rules controlling population growth or something like that.
Can you explain to me WTF a phase diagram has to do with population density? Are you talking about what I have heard referred to as a phase space? Are the two synonymous and I didn't even know it?
And remind me, what did these two bozos contribute to the "greater good" lately that makes them deserving of what was once a hallowed honor. Sorry, not gonna buy it. I'm against kneejerk Bush or Mr. Softee bashing, but when it's merited, gimme my $Hi+ kicking boots and I'll join right in.
I guess it comes down to the fact that there's enough crap to hold against Mr. Softee, and definately Bush, that we shouldn't resort to the kneejerk attacks. It weakens our case for the many times we do have a reasonable gripe.
Yes, but the **tether** could counter the force of gravity exerted on the climber the whole way up. IANAP, but I'm pretty sure the velocity is a non-issue here.
So what's the lesson here? Have a virus/worm with a limited life span? After the first n machines have been infected cease spreading?
Interesting... I'm wondering if anyone could do this w/o the virus having to communicate with some sort of server. If there was a pointer that got changed when the virus hit a new target, it would have to go in a linear form (eg: not a hydra-type... one person infects only one other person) if it wanted to keep track (accurately!) of how many ppl got infected.
Curious idea, but I dunno if it would work w/o requiring a server with the potential to get shut down and end the virus' lifetime.
Have you ever seen a system which lets you, out-of-the-box, hit a corner in order to do anything at all even remotely related to anything having anything at all to do with a document or application?
Hmmm... yea... yea, I have... In the lower left corner of the screen for 99% of out-of-the-box systems when they are on there's that little start button, which does have something remotely to do with apps & docs... Also: what about the menu bar at the top? Upper right-hand corner: close window.. Honestly, I don't know WTF half the articles are on here for... other than us flaming the crap outta 'em..
Um... for one, the consoles BEGIN as a loss leader (meaning that the company actually loses money for each console sold.) As the price of hardware manufacturing drops (as it *always* does over time), they start to make profit on the console instead of just the games. When they want to give their market a good jump start, they then decide to lose money on the consoles again...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Nintendo the PIONEER of the handheld market?
I know that the Atari Lynx came out at about the same time as the Gameboy, and there are some serious parallels between Atari Lynx vs. Gameboy (better hardware vs. solid niche) and PSP vs DS (again... better hardware vs. solid niche. Is Sony really so arrogant as to think that the PSP is far and away superior to the DS? Guess so...
How is it that 33 million comprises 12% of the sample, and 3 million equates to 10%. Makes me doubt the credibility of the article/post as a whole, with such a blatant stupid mistake on the face of it.
--clarification-- Since google scholar is still in beta, and is a viable alternative to the other existing academic journal search engines, TFA is dead wrong.

BIOTECH!?!?!
What about the up and coming functional genomics?!?
Those who are willing to sacrifice liberties for security deserve neither.

I'd be willing to bet its exactly 100MB every few minutes... Howzabout some confidence in your approximations-in-lieu-of-background-research, eh?

'specially if the cores reach critical mass.... [/sardonic]
I myself do not like useless repetetive redundancy repeated uselessly.
Anal retentive, yea definately...
But it was a well thought out post, and I was ABOUT to mod it +1 informative... but that fucking "I myself..."
Just 'cause you don't get the intelligent jokes doesn't mean they're not there... take 99% of what Brian says, for example.

Yeah, it's from the date of the palm...
First line of TFA talks about the DATE PALM tree. Smooth...
Um, no it's not. /me has just slapped you with a fish...
