Wow. If that's true Apple's in deep shit. Of course they aren't. The market is big enough for lots of players.

Are you sure? I thought the safest thing to do was to throw it in the trash and then empty the trash. (Works on both the meat simulation and e-mail varities)
Until Apple makes a statement (which would be really easy for them to do) this is just a counter-rumor.
Now, as to why apple won't simply come out and say whether they'll be using DRM to lock their OS to their hardware... my tinfoil hat tingles in a way that make me think the DRM is coming. This way the fanbase, as opposed to the userbase, has time to internalize this possibility before they announce it.
Or it could be like you're implying in your post, they just haven't decided yet themselves.
I hope that's the case. I just know (I'm affiliated with a public university now) that while there is a general council's office that has lawyers on staff, this defence probably took up a lot of resources.
Unbudgeted events can be disasterous as there is no extra money. So the money for this may have prevented some academic program from being funded. Which would really be a shame.
Huh? You should always use different vendor's products in your security system. If it's Windows inside, it should be something else at the border. Probably a Cisco box rather than any PC/Linux solution.
For a similar example, we use one vendor's Anti-Virus product on the desktops and another for the servers.
Right! Current understanding of science says only that an object with mass cannot accelerate to the speed of light. Yet photons zip around at the speed of light.
So, either photons have no mass, and therefore don't exist, or that we don't have a complete understanding of all the laws of the universe.
If we all accept that FTL travel is impossible, that breakthru that makes it possible will never be undertaken. That's the positive of science-fantasy, it lets you imagine and dream. Those dreams of 50 years ago are largely a reality, becasue the people who were inspired by the stories then dreamed and helped make those dreams reality.
I'd have to disagree. Especially with the case in point, a NIC. They're all pretty much interchangable. Buyers choosing the products they like controls the market.
Don't change. That's how this crazy free-market thing works!
Don't buy from companies you don't like, don't buy from companies that don't support you, don't buy from companies that don't provide a quality product (which to you means cross platform).
I'm sure you already realize this, but you're an insignificant part of their market. Your lost sales don't matter because they're making plenty elsewhere.
You're doing your part and voting with your dollars and supporting a company that does meet your needs and desires as a consumer.
It's all part of the invisible hand at work. Get enough "yous" together and that hand will bitchslap companies who don't provide drivers.
Not true. I wasn't a walmart customer and I got a banner ad when I logged in this morning. I've only seen it the one time, which is nice, but it's not ONLY for converts.
Really? I see this all the time now on the web. Either in google adwords pointing to a competitor or amazon links.
Just yesterday I was adding a book to my Buy.com wishlist and on a search with the book title, the item I actually wanted was item 23 but a sponsor link (that appeared between entries 3 and 4) was a direct link to the book at amazon.com.
Actual the furniture angle is the best part, not the worst. All the equipment is on the back wall, away from the seating and not a visual feature of the room. The projector is small and mounted to the ceiling. The 'screen' area is completely clear.
No hutch, no cabinet cluttering the front of the room. Just a giant viewing area. With the ceiling mount, you can walk almost all the way to the screen without getting your head into the image. At maximum daylight, the screen is hard to see. Close a blind on that half of the room and you're fine.
1. It scales well (mine was a 60" at my last house and is a 90" now). 2. Viewing angle is 180 degrees. 3. The bulb is replacable so it dies before the birghtness is an issue. 4. Cost! For $1,500 you can have an HD monster screen TV.
This doesn't work in homes with an always on TV, due to bulb life, but otherwise it's a hell of a solution.
PS - A $400 manufacturing cost will still be a couple few grand at the store.

Unfortunately, the University burned just as much money defending themselves.
Spot on. People just assume that the back end systems run perfectly. Just buy a server and plug it in.
Ah, so if you don't know what you're doing and get infected with malicious 3rd party applications, then Windows is unstable.
Not the same as windows shutting down often.
Really? I go to google.com, i type in my search, results come up. No real clutter in my face.
Way too much crap that's wormed its way to the top of each search, but I don't know an engine without that problem.
(If you know of one, I'd be willing to try someone other than google.)
Point conceeded, but when I think OSS I don't think the price-point of a PIX. ;)

It's called defence thru depth.
Wow! I applaud you! The age old NO CARRIER joke, except it's funny AND on topic.
Unbelievable!
Unfortunately is on a product that may not have any market. :(

If that's really the case then you've come full circle to the discussion topic: Why Don't Companies Release Specs?
I think it's beacuse they're stupid or just don't miss your money.

They're also largely responsible for putting a computer on every desk at the office, in every home on your street and in every device that you own.
Just like most religious wars, the casuses of the hatred (on both sides) are historical. The here-and-now is of little import.
Either that or this guy's on crack. The opening sequence of 3 was better than anything in episodes 1, 2, 4 or 6.

Bulb replacement is the only downside.
Everyone forgets the wee little projector.

City wide may be a plan, but the downtown area was done and active months ago.
