    EROEI for food is less then 1. more like .01.

    Most of that though is free sunlight. And food is much more convenient then sun.

    If their is something about the invested energy that makes it less convenient then EROEL can be lower.

    2 months off in one block is probably not so good. A month off in the summer, 3 weeks in the winter might work better (as in an extra week in the winter). And then another week to coincide with some major culture group's major holiday, or in the middle of each 'term'. Say a week off in october and a week off in march, with school running august to june.

    Except it is not really a week holiday. It turns into a week of homework.

    For mining, it's hard to say without actually going there and looking more closely. There's tons of stuff we mine now that it very rare and we could use more of. Even copper is getting more and more rare, as the prices for it keep rising greatly, and it's of critical importance to our technology. Lithium would be nice too. Plus, our existing mining processes cause enormous environmental devastation.

    All of that stuff is cheap compared with launching stuff into space. If you can get stuff into space cheaper from the moon then earth then their is a big market. Maybe even for space based solar.

    Employes say work all 7 days or your fired. Unions step in and protect the workers. the unions need protection too.

    printing currency/income tax: how else are you going to build the infrastructure to run the country.

    Minimum wages,SS and medicare stop people from being forced to work for low pay in bad jobs

    I think they may have developed this for the NBN.There is not the goal of getting fiber to every home in the NBNs plans. Those last few percent of the population in difficult to cable areas - I can't remember percentage but as much as five percent - are to be serviced by wireless technologies.

    This is not for end users. It is to get the link to the tower.

    If it costs us the energy of 2 barrels of oil to extract 1 barrel of oil it doesn't matter what it costs, we can't use it for energy.

    We can if the 2 barrels is of a lower grade. (I.e 50C solar heat is quite low) but if you can get 1 barrel of oil out of it but as the solar heat is quite useless otherwise and cheap
    , it can work.

    Also per citizen(not just the people covered by the government health care) the us government spends more then Australia does(public and private)
