This. It's the TR-069 ACS port. The security on it, is that ACS requires a password to use as well, which only Verizon has. It's also possible that they have network layer firewalling preventing any hosts but ones in their management pool from accessing it.

They could then continue to push towards the goal of requiring the use of the poster's real name for the next several years in small increments, and after a while, people will accept it.

Blizzard already does require that - it's the forums for a subscription based MMO game.

Started off as a few friends who like video games and cinema putting out products using a few Xboxes in the middle of the night while working real jobs and some donated web space. Now? You can buy the videos on Xbox live and the DVDs in Best Buy. They have their own company, with health insurance and everything. It is basically their full time jobs. The make money on t-shirts, DVDs, and people who subscribe to their site.

Rooster Teeth Productions is a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation. Hardly independent.

And yet, PayPal doesn't offer dispute resolution to everyone. Sometimes, they decide to basically just tell you to refund the money.

And good luck finding a phone number for this "giant customer service centre" you speak of. I can't find a single phone number for PayPal. Going through the web support site, only 10% of paths through it lead to a "email customer service" form from which you get a form response. Yeah, real good customer service.

I can't say I've ever had a positive experience with PayPal.

The Virtual Store is an exact replica of the folder structure of Program Files. The only reason "Application Name" would be in the path, is if the application put it there. Windows didn't.

Second, whether it's an INI file is beyond irrelevant. Windows redirects all writes to the Virtual Store, because no user-mode application should be writing to program files except installers.

So you didn't go through PayPal, and your payment processor didn't fight to protect you, so that is PayPal's fault?

No. What I blame PayPal for is that the processor was not given the option to fight it. Their dispute resolution options were "Accept chargeback", and "Already refunded". The option to actually dispute it was not made available - the only thing they could do was refund and then charge me.

    So yes it's PayPal's fault.

Actually, Stardock does this on their first party and published titles. The game itself costs like $50 via digital download, but they'll send you the DVD at just the cost of shipping added on. Pretty good deal. And by contrast, you can also buy the game disk in stores and never insert it - once you activate the key you can just download the game. That second part is the same as Steam though, so not really a huge deal.

That's just vanity. You're contributing to waste and environmental damage just to stroke your ego. Quite outdated thinking.

There's waste and environmental damage in the downloadable copies too. Servers, disk bays and routers all consume tremendous amounts of power, which in most countries is generated using tremendously environmentally damaging means (and don't go on about nuclear being clean - depleted Uranium-235 is NOT clean, and burying it for future generations to deal with is hardly environmentally friendly. Roll on cold fusion reactors).

At least with the physical copies, there's a single instance of environmental damage per copy (often mitigated by "renewable forestry" harvesting methods), rather than ongoing damage.

How is the PS3 so inefficient? Downloadable games on the Wii are only 10 to 40 megs.

For a start, because the Wii is capable of 480p resolution, while the PS3 scales up to native 1080i - I'm sure you can imagine just how much graphics alone takes up. Add onto that the Wii's sound processor probably isn't AAC/DTS/TrueHD 7.1, and I'm sure you can see why sound files on the PS3 are larger too.

Oh, that and the insistence of every developer under the sun to require a 7GB install before you can play the game.

And I assure you, if the state tried funding it you'd hear the "liberals" (or more specifically, those calling themselves that) bitching about "big government" spending taxpayers money where it doesn't belong.

    There's really no win/win situation.
