Or perhaps it's the other way around. Perhaps people are only willing to pay a percentage of what the car cost new? Perspective is a crazy thing, isn't it?
On the note of comparing cars to video games... that's absurd. The amount of money it costs to develop a car per car is great. The amount of money it costs to actually build each car is much greater. For video games, it's almost entirely development costs, save advertising and what-not. They could already lower their prices and still rake in huge profits. Car companies have tighter margins. That's the difference.
Strangely, the 0x00 exploit even works on Slashdot... you've somehow gotten a "first post" to +5 Funny. If that's not hacker-worthy, I don't know what is.
If there was anything to mention, it would be the fact that you brought up Plan 9. I am amused to no end, sir. Someone mod this guy up.:)
And yeah, I was a Mac fanatic up until OS X. Now I hate what Apple has become. Their business practices and their userbase both have the tendency to make me feel queasy.
Oh, I just thought it was amusing that he was referring to BSD as shitty when OS X is based off it.:) The fewer words you can put something in, the more of an ass you sound like. I did it in 4?
And, if you notice, the GPL community loses nothing. Case-in-point, GPL software doesn't exist to serve companies; it exists to serve users. If a company wants to use GPL code, then they must suffer the consequences. And often those consequences end up in the customer's favor.
Also, I feel something must be said for the unnecessary lawsuits that fly forth from not licensing code at all. The GPL exists to protect the nature of free code. Without the unnecessary licensing, copyrights, and patents, the GPL would have no reason to exist. A good comparison is the BSD license. As I'm sure you're aware, Apple added to FreeBSD code to come up with OS X. They now sell this for a small fee and sell hardware at a premium. Sure, users benefit; but, the developers intended for their code to be usable in that fashion. They don't care to protect the original intention of the software. The GPL exists to serve a purpose, just like the BSD License. And, as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't want to code something and then see a company line their pocketbooks with my code without fair compensation.
Surely you can't deny the immediate advantages of being able to spend exorbitant amounts of money on lobbyists.:) Do I need to bring copyright extensions or marijuana prohibition into this? (Yes, I'm in America)
Would the kid really have a username and password to the server? Of COURSE he used someone else's username and password. Assuming it was a brute force (details on the hack?), he would have had to use it anyway. Also, it's smarter to cover your tracks by using another username and login.
How exactly did you gain that from the article? There's always the chance that he was just curious about accessing it. Where was there any not of blackmail? You must remember that this sort of thing happens all the time.
Cnadlejck (you know why I'm spelling it like that) is more of a Freakazoid thing than a meme. You can't just claim something is a meme if it existed prior to becoming popular on some website. See: Freakazoid
I liked reading your post and will attest to its accuracy. I also feel it should be noted that the developers only listened to classes with high populations. Which means that more people flowed into the classes that worked. It left many classes with excessively low populations. I would know, I was a Pikeman from beginning to end. We had the lowest player population in the game, besides Jedi. But that was before the Jedi boom.:)
I shouldn't be responding because it's obvious that you're just not getting this. 1st: I'm paying for college myself. Not taxpayers. So are most students.Unless you're trying to catch me on a technicality by saying that a student will eventually become a taxpayer. 2nd: FiOS and U-verse aren't even that much. You do realize that universities have huge networks and have most of it going through the same pipe, right? 3rd: Are you trying to impress me by being able to pay for a residential Internet service?
Taxpayer costs? Do you have any idea where the majority of the school funding is from? Not to mention the fact that most MMORPGs let you download the client software. Also, do you even realize how much free time college students actually have? I'm sorry, sir. You seem to be pretty out of touch these days.
So, I decided to try World of Warcraft again recently. I'm on Linux and don't have the CDs any longer. I ended up downloading 7 gigabytes over the course of 2 days. Yeah.. 128 kbps... you're a fool. Not to mention the fact that I'll download a distribution ISO every now and then to set up a server or something.
Won't this just cause people to produce new child pornography that isn't getting filtered yet? C'mon guys. Which is more important, stopping guys from fapping to images of children or stopping the actual harm being inflicted upon the children? Christ almighty, I can't believe how there isn't an intelligence requirement to get power in this world.
You do realize that the system tray in Windows does this as well. You can even launch applications from it! It's just not as emphasized in Windows. In fact, in more recent versions, they go out of their way to make it smaller. Oh yeah, and Linux has one, too. This UI idea has been around for aeons.
I have to comment on your.sig. How exactly is piracy ethically no different from mob looting a store whose locks were broken? Your analogy is missing something. Try "mob looting a store that has an infinite supply of something and pays nothing for it." You seem to be missing the specific points between theft and copyright infringement (there is a reason courts still don't call it theft). Media can be infinitely reproduced at no cost to the creator. Throws that whole supply and demand thing out of whack, doesn't it?
It's pretty obvious that you're trolling now. I'm sure you're aware of how many Linux users frequent this board and I'm sure you're aware that the majority of them chose Linux for reasons beyond being "too cheap to spend $200 on a Windows license." So, if you could take your troll attitude and toggle yourself to AC, it would be appreciated.:)
As a note, I'm defining you as a troll simply because you directly insulted a significant portion of the Slashdot population.

Dude. Don't you know that CSS suxxx?
Twitter on Twitter? And you want people to imagine that? How many heads have to explode before you realize what you're doing, man!?
Dude.. go open a terminal and type "man lsck" right now. If you don't have a manual for it, try nabbing a copy from your local repository.
Wow.. that analogy made sense. I propose Slashdot move from car analogies to Superman analogies. All in favor?

Umm... OS X is BSD.

Interesting. Well, the report also noted that he had a friend helping him. Could it be possible that he used his friend's account?

Yes there is. It's called Sweden.

GT5 has gone a step further and is advancing reality. A first for driving simulators, I'm cure.
