I too have had several great high paying IT jobs with only 1 year of college and 5 years of crypto in the Army. College helps mostly when you are just starting out, it gets you in the door. Once you've had a good job with good references in IT, especially 5-10 years worth, it makes less of a difference. The military will really help you out. Many hiring managers will be ex-military and recognize your worth. Also, many managers that I've had regard the military higher because for many careers, it shows that you can do more than what college requires. Regardless, you'll have to have something compelling to offer. Every job I've had listed a college degree as a requirement, but obviously it wasn't. If you have experience, great. If not, then you'll have to convince the hiring manager that you're smart, motivated and will work for less, or maybe on contract until you prove yourself. I learned a lot on my first job with EDS. It didn't pay great at first, but after several years it did and it really helped propel me in my next and next jobs.
Take out a second mortgage and travel to the home of an ancient civilization and start digging. It is my dream and you're bound to find something priceless that will pay off your mortgage and propel you into a successful archeology career.
I'm not sure of the wavelength, but the blue light on my Wii keeps me awake while driving, though it's still difficult to play games that require the nunchuck.

Think of the connection as a large pipe (your cable connection) with a small outflow valve (your modem), connected to a larger, higher pressure pipe (your ISP). Until your local pipe is full, you can put water into it as fast as you desire. But once it is full, the volume slows down because you can only put in as much as you are taking out (your cable modem connection/outflow valve). So what speakeasy and various other speed testing sites see is the effect of filling up your local pipe (your connection to your ISP).
Wonder what would happen if companies said "hey, I want that, you know the thing that you're not selling here. If not, we won't buy anything from you." The world economy is still tied to the US economy. Low dollar, so what. That makes our goods more desirable because they're cheaper. If we stop buying, the rest of the world slides into depression.
This has been predicted for a long time. This "sham" will cost all people with above world average income (virtually all of America).
The UN speaker on the environment cited that America was the biggest contributer of green house gases and had the highest per capita income. Hmmm.... sounds like taxation coming our way. Hopefully the UN can't do it (and hopefully they'll disappear in a ball of fire), but the American politicians looking for more $ to fund their crap will worm their way in.
I think we should tax heat production, the "consensus" of scientists believe that CO2 increases as the temperature increases, not the other way around.
This new generation "scam" will be the downfall of the industrialized world... Watch.
"Depends: It depends on what you think the cause is. Are they suing (or getting sued) over ZFS-related patents, and don't want to make any public comments while litigation is pending? Probably a bad thing. Unless the patent suit is about to be crushed because someone has strong prior art: Then it's a good thing."
I hope Al Gore is a/. reader. If we time it just right (how long?), we can fix this alarming problem on the the sun and continue our trajectory to Mars and deal with the receding ice caps there. We'll have time as we ride Mars back to its closest to Earth (or will we?).
Hmmm...wait... When should we leave to hit Mars just right? Assume 2 Earth years fixing the Sun (seeing that it's hot and the cause has yet to be determined) and then 1 Earth year fixing Mars since there are no human emissions (we'll have to determine the cause before the fix). Feel free to fiddle with the assumptions.

or... tell your wife to get a job.
No, they agreed to provide one and then bought it from someone else.
Gimme a fucking break! Uid of 137 makes this not a serious troll? Thought the mod system was so we didn't have to read troll/off-topic/bullshit!?!?
Actually it is, unless you inhale large quantities of it for many hours daily for many years. Fiberglass as well I suppose.

Yeehaaw! This has got to be one of the geekiest discussions recently!

TUBES not PIPES!
I have I believe the 8Mbps service from Comcast and speakeasy shows:
Download Speed: 7981 kbps (997.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2579 kbps (322.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
My scp test to my internet host shows:
Download: 100% 48MB 965.9KB/s 00:51 (it never dropped below 800KB and periodically hit 1.0MB)
Upload: Took too long but averaged about 40.0KB/s
So I'm fairly happy.

Why do you have alarms in your brain? Why are they going off?
